Hoops Card DB

Verified not to exist

No source publishes a non-release — nobody announces the set they didn't make. So an absence in a checklist database is ambiguous: not documented, or not real? These 25 seasons were verified not to exist: each was searched for deliberately, and the evidence of its absence is recorded below. If you're holding a card from one of them, one of us is wrong — and we'd like to know.

3 products exist but can't be described by this catalogue's model:

  • Panini Eminence Basketball (line)

Eminence has NO non-autographed base set. What sources label the 'base' checklist is itself an AUTOGRAPH set of ~29-30 cards serial-numbered #/10, with a Gold /5 - Emerald /3 - Platinum 1/1 ladder sitting on top of an already-numbered auto (cardboardconnection + tcdb, 2019-20). base_cards.csv presumes common cards numbered 1..N; card_number, rookie_flag and card_tier are meaningless when every base card is a numbered hit. Basketball seasons found: 2014-15, 2019-20, 2021-22, 2024-25 - genuine skipped years. EXCLUDED pending a hit-only model, not merely unbuilt.

  • Panini Eminence Basketball 2017-18

2017-18 shipped a product named 'Panini KOBE Eminence' (cardboardconnection, 2018-01-12), which the 2017-18 Phase 0 memo flagged as having no brands.csv row. CONFIRMED EXCLUDED 2026-09-27 by an explicit owner decision, inheriting this line's existing out-of-schema exclusion: Eminence has no non-autographed base set, so base_cards.csv cannot model it and card_number, rookie_flag and card_tier are meaningless when every base card is a numbered hit. The decision also covers the open question of whether 'Kobe Eminence' and 'Eminence' are one line: it was deliberately NOT resolved, because the exclusion applies either way and resolving it would buy nothing. If a hit-only model is ever built, revisit this row and that question together.

  • Panini Instant NBA (flagship) (line)

Print-to-order: individual cards commemorate a game or event, sell in a short window (often 24 hours), and the print run is DISCOVERED AFTER the window closes rather than printed at production time (beckett explainer + cardboardconnection). tcdb shows 2023-24 Panini Instant NBA running to 596 cards under one umbrella. There is no single release_date, no fixed base_set_size, and the natural primary key is the individual card (season + player + event), not a release. EXCLUDED. NOTE: Instant's FIXED-CHECKLIST spinoffs (e.g. 'The Franchise', a stable 30-card set sold in one window) ARE schema-compatible and should be modelled as ordinary releases - they are a separate ingestion candidate, not excluded.
