  • G-001 STRUCTURAL QUESTION - RESOLVED WITH A CAVEAT. Sapphire's base checklist was compared card-by-card against the extracted 2025-26 Topps Chrome base set: all 299 Chrome cards appear in Sapphire at identical card numbers with identical players and teams (0 differences). Sapphire additionally issues #226 Sidy Cissoko (Portland Trail Blazers), which Chrome skipped, giving Sapphire 300 contiguous cards vs Chrome's 299. So Sapphire shares Chrome's numbering and roster but does NOT share the #226 omission. UNRESOLVED: no source explains why #226 is blank in Chrome yet filled in Sapphire, and no source states in so many words that the Sapphire base checklist is a reproduction of Chrome's - that conclusion is ours from the card data, not a publisher statement.
  • G-002 Editorial sources contradict the card-level structural finding in G-001. fanatics.live says Sapphire "comes with a different look and a more condensed checklist"; pullmarket.io calls it "a premium online-exclusive companion" that is "not a parallel variant" of Chrome and cites a "different base set size". Neither is supported by the checklist itself (identical rosters, identical numbering, 300 vs 299). Recorded the card-level evidence over the editorial claims.
  • G-003 Purple Sapphire print run disagreement: checklistinsider, fanatics.live and pullmarket all print /15; cardsmithsbreaks prints /75. All sources agree the odds are 1:22 packs, which sits between Orange /25 (1:12) and Black /10 (1:28) and is only consistent with a print run between 25 and 10 - i.e. /15. Recorded as 15 (3 sources to 1, plus odds-ladder consistency).
  • G-004 beckett.com/news/2025-26-topps-chrome-sapphire-basketball-cards/ returned HTTP 403 on every attempt, so Beckett's team set lists and any Beckett-only parallel or variation detail could not be used as a cross-check.
  • G-005 Autograph count reconciliation: checklistinsider lists a single "Topps Chrome Autographs Sapphire" of 26 cards; cardsmithsbreaks lists "Topps Chrome Autographs" (25) plus "Topps Chrome Autographs II" (1). Recorded as two rows (25 + 1) on the assumption checklistinsider merges them - the totals match exactly, but no source states the relationship.
  • G-007 "Base Sapphire" is recorded as an unnumbered parallel row to match the convention used for the 2025-26 Topps Chrome extraction ("Base Refractor"), but in this product the Sapphire finish is the base card itself rather than a parallel of a plainer card. cardsmithsbreaks renders it as a parallel row at 3:1; consumers of this data should not double-count it.
  • G-008 Insert/autograph parallel structure is effectively single-source. Sapphire Selections is listed with Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /5 and a SuperFractor 1/1 but NO Black or Purple tier, and Infinite Sapphire is listed with no parallels at all (base 1:160 only). Neither omission is stated as deliberate by any source and neither could be cross-checked.
  • G-009 Team for #226 Sidy Cissoko: checklistinsider prints "Portland Trail Blazers"; cardsmithsbreaks files him under "Other" on its team-grouped checklist. Recorded as Portland Trail Blazers (the only source that names a team).
  • G-010 rookie_flag derivation: RC designations were read from checklistinsider, which prints RC on #251-300 only. Cards #1-250 are recorded as 'no'. The 1-50 and 201-250 ranges were explicitly queried for RC markings and returned none; the 51-200 range was not individually re-queried for RC marks, and rests on the identical Topps Chrome extraction plus roster content (veterans, second-year players and legends). cardsmithsbreaks independently shows RC only in its Base Sapphire III (#201-300) section.
  • G-011 Several requested sources carry no coverage of this release: no ripped.topps.com (Topps first-party) article for Chrome Sapphire Basketball could be found (only Chrome and Chrome Updates), and no cardboardconnection.com or sportscollectorsdaily.com page for the Sapphire edition exists (sportscollectorsdaily covers the flagship Chrome return only). chasingmajors.com has a page but it was last updated 2025-10-30 with every field still "TBA".
  • G-012 No source consulted publishes card images or a dedicated parallel/visual guide for this release, so visual_notes are derived from parallel names and pack odds rather than from observed cards. In particular the exact tint of "Padparadscha" (a pink-orange sapphire gemstone) on card is inferred from the gem, not confirmed visually.
  • G-013 The task brief anticipated a wider colour family (Aqua, Fuchsia, Emerald, Citrine, Ruby, Blue). No source consulted (checklistinsider, cardsmithsbreaks, fanatics.live, si.com, pullmarket, topps.com/launches) lists any base parallel beyond Gold, Orange, Purple, Black, Red and Padparadscha. Recorded six parallels only; the wider family may exist on other Sapphire products (baseball/soccer) or may simply not be published yet.
  • G-014 Release date 2026-01-22 is confirmed by checklistinsider and si.com ("Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 at 12 PM EST") and corroborated by pullmarket. The topps.com EQL launch pages carry the SKU and price but no visible on-sale timestamp, so the exact drop time is not first-party confirmed.
  • G-015 Set naming is inconsistent between sources: checklistinsider suffixes every insert/auto set with "Sapphire" (e.g. "Next Stop Signatures Sapphire"), cardsmithsbreaks does not. The unsuffixed forms were recorded to keep the sets linkable to the identically-named families in the 2025-26 Topps Chrome extraction; this is a normalisation decision.
  • G-016 PER-SET PARALLEL TIERS: 7 of 9 non-base sets carry an enumerated tier note. The remainder returned NO dedicated parallel section on checklistinsider, the only source that calibrated cleanly for Topps products; a sample was confirmed absent by targeted per-name query rather than inferred from silence. Many appear to be plain unnumbered inserts that genuinely have no ladder. NOTE the source landscape here differs from Panini: tcdb's Inserts.cfm page, which carried this data for every Panini line, is NOT validated for Topps, and ripped.topps.com's Collector's Guide was caught FABRICATING a full rainbow ladder that a verbatim search disproved. Resolving further needs a first-party Topps odds sheet per product, not more scraping.
  • G-017 INFINITE SAPPHIRE IS CATALOGUE-ONLY FOR ITS PRINTED TOKEN. All 20 rows (IS-1..IS-20) were written on three independent catalogues that agree row-for-row - tcdb sid 587679 (https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/587679/2025-26-Topps-Chrome-Sapphire-Edition-Infinite-Sapphire), https://cardsmithsbreaks.com/full-checklist/2025-26-topps-chrome-basketball-sapphire/ and https://www.checklistinsider.com/2025-26-topps-chrome-sapphire-basketball - but NO marketplace seller title carrying an IS- token could be found for this release, and sportscardspro carries no Infinite Sapphire console page at all. The set falls 1:160 packs (the scarcest insert here) on a January 2026 online-exclusive product, so this reads as a recency/scarcity shortfall rather than a numbering doubt: the roster is fully known and published, only the seller-transcribed confirmation is missing. The identically-shaped sibling insert Sapphire Selections IS marketplace-confirmed (SS-1 Cooper Flagg, https://www.ebay.com/itm/168305291273), which establishes that the PREFIX+ORDINAL shape is genuinely what Topps prints on this release's inserts and not an aggregator ordinal with a prefix bolted on.
  • G-018 PREFIX COLLISION INSIDE THIS RELEASE: 'SS-' serves TWO sets at once. Sapphire Selections is numbered SS-1..SS-20 (insert, prefix + ordinal) and Signature Style is numbered SS-AM..SS-ZR (autograph, prefix + initials). Both confirmed on tcdb (sids 587673 and 587761) and independently on sportscardspro, which files them as two separate consoles (https://www.sportscardspro.com/console/basketball-cards-2025-topps-chrome-sapphire-selections and https://www.sportscardspro.com/console/basketball-cards-2025-topps-chrome-sapphire-signature-style). No card_number string is shared between the two sets because one suffix family is numeric and the other alphabetic, so there is no actual duplicate today - but (set_name, card_number) is the only safe key and a resolver keyed on prefix alone will mis-hit.
  • G-019 CROSS-RELEASE CODE IDENTITY WITH 2025-26 TOPPS CHROME - a live contamination hazard for any future pass. The prefixes TCAR-, NS-, TAIR- and SWS- and many of their exact suffixes exist in BOTH this release and the 2025-26 Topps Chrome flagship, so a search keyed on a code returns the wrong product. Caught and excluded during this pass: https://www.ebay.com/itm/128016353412 ('2025-26 Topps Chrome - Rookie Autographs Collin Murray-Boyles #TCAR-CMB (AU, RC)'), https://www.ebay.com/itm/336639306999 ('2025-26 Topps Chrome Ace Bailey Autograph Issue Rookie Auto Refractor #TAIR-AB'), https://www.sportscardspro.com/game/basketball-cards-2025-topps-chrome-rookie-autograph/cooper-flagg-gold-geometric-tcar-cf and https://www.sportscardinvestor.com/cards/cooper-flagg-basketball/2025-topps-chrome-chrome-rookie-autographs-tcar-cf - all Chrome, not Sapphire, and the first two additionally carry tcdb's '(AU, RC)' flag string. Only sources whose own title or URL names SAPPHIRE were used as evidence here. Cross-sport pollution on the same product name was also observed and excluded: 2025 Topps Chrome Sapphire Edition tennis (Ben Shelton #CA-BSN), UFC, football, and UEFA/UWCL soccer all exist, as do prior-season Sapphire basketball editions where 2024-25 Sapphire Selections #SS-1 is Zaccharie Risacher rather than Cooper Flagg.
  • G-020 CONTRADICTION AGAINST sets.csv's RECORDED PARALLEL TIER FOR SAPPHIRE SELECTIONS. sets.csv (from checklistinsider, echoed by cardsmithsbreaks) records the ladder as Gold Sapphire /50, Orange Sapphire /25, Red Sapphire /5 and SuperFractor 1/1. Two independent sources fetched in this pass instead name the fourth tier PADPARADSCHA SAPPHIRE and know of no SuperFractor: tcdb's Inserts.cfm for the parent lists exactly four Sapphire Selections parallels - Gold (sid 587674), Orange (587675), Padparadscha (587677), Red (587676) - and sportscardspro's console renders every Sapphire Selections card in five variants, base plus [Gold] [Padparadscha] [Orange] [Red]. Padparadscha is also the top tier tcdb and sportscardspro use for all six autograph sets. This looks like the same 1/1 tier under two names rather than a missing tier, but no source states the relationship. Recorded here rather than edited; relates to G-008. Not touched: parallels.csv.
  • G-021 tcdb SET-NAME DIVERGENCE. tcdb files our 'Topps Autograph Issue Rookies' as 'Topps Certified Autograph Issue Rookies' (sid 587749), and files 'Sky-Write Signatures' under exactly that hyphenated spelling (sid 587743) where cardsmithsbreaks prints 'Sky Write Signatures' and the 2025-26 Topps Chrome extraction records 'SkyWrite Signatures'. The sets were matched by card count (30 and 33), by parallel ladder (Gold/Orange/Black/Red/Padparadscha on both) and by prefix (TAIR- and SWS-), never by name. sets.csv names were kept byte-for-byte in insert_cards.csv. Extends G-015.
