No base-set parallel has a row in the catalogue yet. That is not a claim that none exist — this release's open questions record what is known about its parallels and why it is not yet expressible as a row.

  • G-001 release_date=UNKNOWN AND THE GAP IS NARROW: THE MONTH IS SOURCED, THE DAY IS NOT. This is one of the three 2016-17 products Phase 0 could not date, and the usual source really has failed. tcdb's parent page renders NO "Release Date" field at all - confirmed on TWO differently-parameterised fetches under two different slugs (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/141430/2016-17-Panini-Complete and https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/141430/Complete-2016-17-Panini-Basketball-Cards), the second asking for every field label in the set-information block and getting back only "Total Cards: 400" and "Rating". That reproduces scope memo 1b's "REFUSED - no Release Date line rendered" independently. cardboardconnection's PRODUCT page - not its season index, per scope memo 1a - renders "Release Date: December 2016", confirmed verbatim on a second differently-parameterised fetch of the same page (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball). It is MONTH GRANULARITY, not a day, and it is NOT labelled an estimate. A month cannot be written into an ISO YYYY-MM-DD column and nothing was invented to fill it. EVERYTHING ELSE SWEPT AND EMPTY: sportscardchecklist states no release date (https://www.sportscardchecklist.com/sport-basketball/year-2016-17/index-panini-complete/trading-card-checklists-and-product-information); sportscardspro states none (https://www.sportscardspro.com/console/basketball-cards-2016-panini-complete); steelcitycollectibles' Fat Pack box page states none (https://www.steelcitycollectibles.com/i/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball-fat-pack-12ct-box); waxstat has no page for this product; checklistcenter surfaced no 2016-17 Complete page in search and per CAV-037 no URL was constructed for it; blog.paniniamerica.net was swept and has NO post for this product at all - https://blog.paniniamerica.net/tag/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball/ returns 404 and two site-scoped searches returned first-look and quality-control posts for Hoops, Prizm, Studio, Limited, Aficionado, Select, Gold Standard, Court Kings, Threads, Revolution, Donruss and Donruss Optic but none for Complete. beckett.com was tried once and is confirmed still down: https://www.beckett.com/news/2016-17-basketball-card-release-dates-checklists-and-set-information/ 302-redirects to https://maintenance.beckett.com/ (CAV-033, now a nineteenth product). NO PUBLICATION-DISTANCE TEST WAS POSSIBLE because there is no competing value to adjudicate - only one source prints a date at all, so the test that resolved threads-bkb-2016-17 has nothing to run on. cardboardconnection's own article metadata gives published_time 2016-12-05 and modified_time 2017-03-09, so its December 2016 statement was published INSIDE the month it names, which makes it a contemporaneous record rather than a long-range forecast - but it still does not name a day. RESOLVE BY: a dated retailer release calendar, a Panini sell sheet, or any hobby-news page carrying a day-level date for this product.
  • G-002 base_print_run=unnumbered carries basis=assumed, NOT sourced, and the distinction is the point. NO source consulted states in words whether 2016-17 Panini Complete base cards carry a serial number; cardboardconnection's product page does not contain the word "numbered" anywhere. What supports the value is that tcdb renders NO serial token on any of the 400 base rows across Checklist.cfm (four pages under the canonical slug plus two pages under an alternate slug), Gallery.cfm (nine pages, one of them with &sort=0) and ViewSet.cfm, while the SAME renderers do emit flag tokens in this release - RC on 58 of the 400 base rows, UER on card 399, and AU on all 30 rows of sid 141438. Per EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.1 that is good evidence and still not a source stating it, so the basis is assumed. NOTE THE ASYMMETRY WITH G-003 TO G-005: `assumed`/`unnumbered` is an explicitly legal state for base_print_run, whereas at parallel base-set scope the schema offers no equivalent, which is why the base cards keep a value and the three parallels have no row at all. RESOLVE BY: a Panini sell sheet, a first-party post, or a marketplace listing for a base card that states the numbering in words.
  • G-003 BASE-SET PARALLEL THAT EXISTS, IS CORROBORATED BY FOUR INDEPENDENT LINEAGES, AND HAS NO LEGAL ROW IN THIS SCHEMA - SO parallels.csv CARRIES NO ROW FOR IT. THE TIER IS REAL. tcdb files "Gold" under the parent's Inserts.cfm heading "Parallel Sets (3)" at sid 141431 and its own page heading reads "2016-17 Panini Complete - Gold" with "Total Cards: 400" (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/141431/2016-17-Panini-Complete-Gold ; https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/141430/2016-17-Panini-Complete). cardboardconnection: "Parallels include Silver and Gold editions along with new No Back cards." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball). sportscardchecklist lists it with 400 cards (https://www.sportscardchecklist.com/sport-basketball/year-2016-17/index-panini-complete/trading-card-checklists-and-product-information). comc catalogues it as a base parallel (https://www.comc.com/Cards/Basketball/2016-17_Panini_Complete). sportscardspro names it (https://www.sportscardspro.com/console/basketball-cards-2016-panini-complete). WHY NO ROW COULD BE WRITTEN. Not one of those four lineages states a print run, a serial number or an insertion ratio for it; cardboardconnection does not contain the word "numbered" or the word "odds" anywhere on its product page, and no comc listing title carries a serial notation. print_run would therefore have to be UNKNOWN, and migrations/003_parallels.sql's unknown_run_only_when_scoped constraint forbids print_run=UNKNOWN at scope_type=base-set (CAV-041). AND `unnumbered` IS NOT WRITEABLE EITHER, WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT. EXTRACTION_SPEC section 6 and CAV-042 allow writing absence only off a POSITIVE DISCRIMINATIVE TEST - the same renderer emitting serial flags on a comparable sibling row and none on these. THAT TEST CANNOT BE RUN IN THIS RELEASE: tcdb emits NO serial token on ANY row of ANY of this product's nine sids, so there is no sibling tier to discriminate against. The flag column is not simply dead here - the parent emits RC on 58 rows and UER on card 399, and sid 141438 Autographs emits AU on all 30 of its rows - but AU and RC are not serial flags, and the First Steps sid (141436) proves tcdb does not even propagate RC to subset sids of this product, so neither direction of the test is available. COVERAGE ACTUALLY READ ON THIS SID, stated as row ranges rather than claimed as complete: Checklist.cfm ?PageIndex=1 rows 1-76 (76 rows, span 76, clean tail cut); ?PageIndex=2&sort=0 rows 101-181 (80 rows over an 81-number span, so one interior row was dropped); ?PageIndex=4 rows 301-373 (72 rows over a 73-number span, one interior row dropped); Gallery.cfm ?PageIndex=1&sort=0 cards 1-10; ViewSet.cfm rendering of the head of the set. Roughly 230 of 400 rows were actually read. The flag column was EMPTY on every row read, on every endpoint, under a varied sort and a varied slug. This is the same expressiveness gap CAV-041 records on status-bkb-2017-18, arriving from the opposite side: there the tier was provably numbered with a variable run, here it is a tier nobody has ever published a run for. A print_run_basis column, or permitting serial_numbered=UNKNOWN with print_run=UNKNOWN at base scope, would convert this spend into a recorded tier. RESOLVE BY: a Panini sell sheet or pack-insert ratio sheet, a dated hobby-news article, or a marketplace listing for a Gold card whose title states numbering in words.
  • G-004 BASE-SET PARALLEL THAT EXISTS, IS CORROBORATED BY FOUR INDEPENDENT LINEAGES, AND HAS NO LEGAL ROW IN THIS SCHEMA - SO parallels.csv CARRIES NO ROW FOR IT. THE TIER IS REAL. tcdb files "Silver" under the parent's Inserts.cfm heading "Parallel Sets (3)" at sid 141433 and its own page heading reads "2016-17 Panini Complete - Silver" with "Total Cards: 400" (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/141433/2016-17-Panini-Complete-Silver ; https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/141430/2016-17-Panini-Complete). cardboardconnection: "Parallels include Silver and Gold editions along with new No Back cards." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball). sportscardchecklist lists it with 400 cards (https://www.sportscardchecklist.com/sport-basketball/year-2016-17/index-panini-complete/trading-card-checklists-and-product-information). comc catalogues it as a base parallel (https://www.comc.com/Cards/Basketball/2016-17_Panini_Complete). sportscardspro names it (https://www.sportscardspro.com/console/basketball-cards-2016-panini-complete). COVERAGE ACTUALLY READ ON THIS SID, stated as row ranges rather than claimed as complete: ViewSet.cfm (head of the set, reported as no tokens anywhere on the page); Checklist.cfm ?PageIndex=2 rows 101-174 (50 rows over a 74-number span, so 24 interior rows were dropped); ?PageIndex=4 rows 301-373 (50 rows over a 73-number span, 23 interior rows dropped). Roughly 150 of 400 rows were actually read, and this is the thinnest coverage of the three. RESOLVE BY: a Panini sell sheet or pack-insert ratio sheet, a dated hobby-news article, or a marketplace listing for a Silver card whose title states numbering in words.
  • G-005 BASE-SET PARALLEL THAT EXISTS, IS CORROBORATED BY FOUR INDEPENDENT LINEAGES, AND HAS NO LEGAL ROW IN THIS SCHEMA - SO parallels.csv CARRIES NO ROW FOR IT. THE TIER IS REAL. tcdb files "No Back" under the parent's Inserts.cfm heading "Parallel Sets (3)" at sid 141432 and its own page heading reads "2016-17 Panini Complete - No Back" with "Total Cards: 400" (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/141432/2016-17-Panini-Complete-No-Back ; https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/141430/2016-17-Panini-Complete). cardboardconnection: "Parallels include Silver and Gold editions along with new No Back cards." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball). sportscardchecklist lists it with 400 cards (https://www.sportscardchecklist.com/sport-basketball/year-2016-17/index-panini-complete/trading-card-checklists-and-product-information). comc catalogues it as a base parallel (https://www.comc.com/Cards/Basketball/2016-17_Panini_Complete). sportscardspro names it (https://www.sportscardspro.com/console/basketball-cards-2016-panini-complete). COVERAGE ACTUALLY READ ON THIS SID, stated as row ranges rather than claimed as complete: ViewSet.cfm (head of the set, rows 1-80 reported); Checklist.cfm ?PageIndex=2 rows 101-170 (40 rows over a 70-number span, so 30 interior rows were dropped - the worst interior-drop measured on this release); ?PageIndex=4 rows 301-372 (72 rows, span 72, clean tail cut). Roughly 190 of 400 rows were actually read. Note comc renders this tier's name as "[Base] - Blank Back" while tcdb, cardboardconnection and sportscardchecklist all render "No Back"; tcdb's string is the one recorded here. RESOLVE BY: a Panini sell sheet or pack-insert ratio sheet, a dated hobby-news article, or a marketplace listing for a No Back card whose title states numbering in words.
  • G-006 CHANNEL IS UNRESOLVED AND THE ONLY SOURCE HEDGES ITS OWN CLAIM. cardboardconnection: "Unlike the debut last year, it appears that 2016-17 Panini Complete Basketball is exclusive to retail but that has not been confirmed." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball). Per CLAUDE.md a source hedging its own claim is not a sourced channel, and scope memo 5b reached the same reading independently. No parallel row exists to carry a channel value (G-003 to G-005), and the release row has no channel column, so this is recorded here rather than written anywhere. WHAT IS SOURCED IS THE SKU SET, NOT THE CHANNEL: "Product Configuration: Retail Box - 5 cards per pack, 36 packs per box Fat Pack Box - 35 cards per pack, 12 packs per box Blaster Box - 5 cards per pack, 11 packs per box, 20 boxes per case" (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball), corroborated for the Fat Pack by steelcitycollectibles, "35 cards per pack. 12 packs per box." (https://www.steelcitycollectibles.com/i/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball-fat-pack-12ct-box). Three retail SKUs is a channel_sku question, not a box-set question, and per scope memo 5b this product is NOT a factory set. RESOLVE BY: a Panini sell sheet or a retailer statement that asserts exclusivity rather than guessing at it.
  • G-007 rookie_flag IS yes ON 58 ROWS AND `no` ON THE OTHER 342, AND THAT IS A CONVENTION CALL WITH A LIVE DIVERGENCE INSIDE THIS SAME SEASON. The evidence for `no` is that tcdb's flag column renders discriminatively on this parent: RC appears on 58 of 400 rows, both RC and non-RC rows appear on EVERY page read, and the column was read on two endpoints (Checklist.cfm and Gallery.cfm) under a varied slug and a varied sort with the overlaps agreeing row for row. CAV-003 warns that rookie_flag=UNKNOWN is the common correct state for Panini products because most checklist sources do not print RC designations - here one does, and prints it on every 2016-17 draftee I could identify in the checklist, including second-rounders and undrafted players. THE DIVERGENCE: within 2016-17, paninihoops, prizm, donruss and noir all write yes/no, while excalibur-bkb-2016-17 writes yes/UNKNOWN (because its RC flagging was demonstrably incomplete - it found a 2016 draftee carrying no RC token) and preferred-bkb-2016-17 writes yes/UNKNOWN. I could not find the equivalent counter-example in this release, so I followed the majority convention; a reader comparing lines will nonetheless see two conventions in one season. RESOLVE BY: an owner decision on whether `no` requires a demonstrated-complete RC column, plus a corpus-wide pass if it does.
  • G-008 NO FLOOR IS CLAIMED FOR THIS LINE, AND AN INCIDENTAL POSITIVE STATEMENT POINTS ONE SEASON DOWN. scope memo 3a records Panini Complete present in tcdb's 2015-16 index at sid 120516 and absent from the 2014-15 index, and 3b (the Studio lesson) establishes that absence from adjacent indexes is NOT a floor. Found incidentally while sourcing the channel: cardboardconnection's product page says "Unlike the debut last year, it appears that 2016-17 Panini Complete Basketball is exclusive to retail but that has not been confirmed." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball), confirmed verbatim on a second differently-parameterised fetch. "the debut last year" is a POSITIVE statement treating 2015-16 as this line's debut, which is the form of evidence 3b says a floor requires - but it is a subordinate clause in a sentence about retail exclusivity, from a single editorial lineage, and I did not chase it. It is reported, not relied on, and NOTHING in this release depends on it. RESOLVE BY: a first-party or second-lineage statement about the line's first basketball season, and a build of 2015-16 if the catalogue goes there.
  • G-009 CARD 399 Marcus Thornton RENDERS THE FLAG TOKEN UER AND THE ERRATUM ITSELF IS UNRESOLVED. Gallery.cfm ?PageIndex=40 renders card 399 with the token UER while rendering RC on card 400 and nothing on the other eight tiles of that page (https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/141430/2016-17-Panini-Complete?PageIndex=40). UER is recorded here as a LITERAL STRING: per EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.4 the fetch layer invents glosses for tcdb flag tokens, so no expansion of it is written. The card number itself is a clean integer 399, the base run is contiguous 1-400 with no duplicate, and the card_number column is therefore unaffected - this is NOT the 2.4 non-integer-card-number trap. Errors.cfm was NOT fetched for this sid, so what tcdb records the error to be is unknown, and per CAV-020 its silence would have been worthless anyway. RESOLVE BY: https://www.tcdb.com/Errors.cfm on sid 141430, read for ROWS only.
  • G-010 parallels.csv IS HEADER-ONLY WITH ZERO DATA ROWS, AND THAT MUST NOT BE READ AS "THIS RELEASE HAS NO PARALLELS". It has exactly three, they are named by four independent lineages, and all three are recorded in G-003, G-004 and G-005. The file is empty because the schema has no legal row for a base-set-scope tier whose print run nobody has ever published (CAV-041), not because the research was not done. EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.3 requires the file to exist with its header in this situation and requires a gap row saying so, which is this row. A consumer counting parallels per release will see 0 for complete-bkb-2016-17 and the true answer is 3. THE SCHEMA FIX that would close this is the same one CAV-041 names: a print_run_basis column, or permitting print_run=UNKNOWN at base-set scope.
  • G-011 NO PRINT RUN, SERIAL NUMBERING OR PACK ODDS IS STATED BY ANY SOURCE FOR ANY OF THE FIVE NON-BASE SETS, so every sets.csv scarcity_tier is UNKNOWN and every stated_odds is empty. cardboardconnection calls the Autographs insert "rare" ("While they are rare, the 2016-17 Panini Complete Basketball Autograph insert features 30 players.", https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-complete-basketball) but "rare" does not place a set in the scarcity_tier enum, and the word "odds" appears nowhere on that page. Its one quantitative statement about insertion is product-wide, not per set: "Each pack averages one insert or parallel." Per CAV-015 a blank stated_odds on a Panini row means unpublished, not unresearched. tcdb's Inserts.cfm Notes column on this parent is in CAV-036's WORTHLESS state and the both-directions split test is UNRUNNABLE: across the eight rows it carries image-completion percentages on two ("12.8% of images added" on Gold, "33.5% of images added" on No Back, "11.7% of images added" on Autographs) and is EMPTY on the rest, so the blanks sit beside percentages rather than beside serial statements and carry zero information (https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/141430/2016-17-Panini-Complete). Every count in sets.csv therefore comes from a per-sid rendering, never from that column. RESOLVE BY: a Panini sell sheet or pack-odds sheet for this product.
  • G-012 SOURCE INDEPENDENCE WAS NOT ESTABLISHED FOR THIS PRODUCT AND ONE EDITORIAL LINEAGE CARRIES MOST OF THE PROSE. cardboardconnection is the only editorial source with a product page for 2016-17 Panini Complete that I could reach; checklistcenter surfaced no page in a site-scoped search and per CAV-037 no URL was constructed; checklistinsider and waxstat have no page for it; beckett.com is confirmed 302ing to maintenance. The counts in sets.csv ARE corroborated across lineages - tcdb's per-sid headers and sportscardchecklist's index agree exactly on all eight subsets (400/400/400/30/20/20/15/15) and sportscardchecklist's nine-entry index reconciles exactly with tcdb's eight Included Sets plus the parent, with no CAV-040 contamination from another product - and comc and sportscardspro independently name the same three parallels. But every prose claim (channel, the "debut last year" remark, the Autographs count in words, the pack-configuration figures) rests on cardboardconnection alone and is marked single-lineage wherever it is used. No marketplace corroboration beyond comc's index was attempted. RESOLVE BY: a second editorial lineage, or eBay/goldin title sampling under the CAV contamination guards.
