- G-001 base_print_run recorded as unnumbered / basis assumed. NO SOURCE STATES that the 2023-24 Contenders Optic base cards 1-100 are unserialised. The evidence is indirect but strong and consistent: tcdb prints a set-level "Serial numbered to N" note and/or an SN token on every numbered tier of this ladder (read at the sibling Rookies scope: "Serial numbered to 99" on Blue https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496173/x, "to 75" on Pink https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496174/x, "to 49" on Orange https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496175/x, "to 45" on International Blue https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496176/x, "to 25" on Green Pulsar https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496177/x, "to 23" on Cracked Ice https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496179/x, "to 18" on Purple FOTL https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496180/x, "to 15" on Purple https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496181/x, "to 10" on Gold https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496182/x, "to 3" on Black FOTL https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496185/x, "to 2" on Gold Lazer https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496186/x, "1/1" on Gold Vinyl https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496187/x) and prints NO FLAG TOKEN ON ANY ROW of the base checklist (https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=1, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=8, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=9, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=10) and no note on base Silver (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496255/x) or base Black Pandora (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496254/x); and both aggregator base ladders print a "#/" figure on exactly the numbered tiers and none on Silver, Red, Black Pandora or International Red (https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/, https://www.checklistinsider.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball). Per EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.1 that is a rule I applied, not a statement I found, so the basis is assumed, not sourced. This is the FIFTH consecutive season of this line to log the identical gap, which suggests the catalogue wants a decision rather than another per-release note.
- G-002 BASE SET SIZED AT 100 AGAINST A PARENT "Total Cards" OF 132. EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.3's exclusion rule was applied: cards 101-135 are an autograph block filed inside the parent checklist past the base run. THE 5.3 CONVENTION CHECK WAS RUN AGAINST THE CATALOGUE AND MY OWN SEASON AGREES - it was read, not assumed. data/contenders-bkb-2023-24/release.csv carries base_set_size=100 over a 100-row base_cards.csv and states in its notes: "Base set is the 100-card Season Ticket set (veterans and rookies in one 1-100 numbering)" and "The Rookie Ticket Autographs are the flagship chase and are recorded in sets.csv only." That is the same exclusion rule on the same evidence shape, so there is NO divergence to resolve in 2023-24 and nothing was resolved silently. THE DIVERGENCE THAT REMAINS IS IN OTHER SEASONS AND IS NOT MINE TO FIX: re-measured directly against the repo on 2026-09-13, data/contenders-bkb-2019-20 and data/contenders-bkb-2021-22 both carry base_set_size=165 INCLUDING their autograph blocks, while contenders 2020-21, 2022-23 and 2023-24 all carry 100 and all five contendersoptic seasons carry 100. EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.3's corrected table is therefore still reproduced exactly by the repo, and the repair needed is over contenders-bkb-2019-20 and contenders-bkb-2021-22 only.
- G-003 DISTINCTNESS PROVEN, AND THE ANSWER CHANGED AGAIN. Positional (card_number, player_name) overlap of this release's 100 base cards is 0 of 100 against data/contenders-bkb-2023-24/base_cards.csv - not one slot coincides - and 1 of 100 against data/optic-bkb-2023-24/base_cards.csv, at slot 92 (P.J. Washington Jr.). Both figures are identical under exact string match and under an accent/suffix-normalised match, so they are not an artefact of name formatting. The series across the line now reads 1/100 (2019-20), 78/100 (2020-21), 0/100 (2021-22), 1/100 (2022-23), 0/100 (2023-24) against its own season's Contenders: the 2020-21 near-twin was a one-season event and has not returned in three seasons. REPORTED SEPARATELY AND DELIBERATELY, because it is NOT the same measure: roster overlap ignoring slot is 89 of 100 names against Contenders and 98 of 100 against Donruss Optic (whose base set is 250 cards, so it is close to a superset of this 100-name pool). A shared league-wide player pool is not a shared checklist and must not be read as an EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.2 base-card identity collision - there is none here. The orderings are unrelated: Contenders opens 1 Nikola Jokic / 2 RJ Barrett / 3 Lauri Markkanen, Donruss Optic opens 1 RJ Barrett / 2 Mitchell Robinson / 3 Andrew Nembhard, this product opens 1 Fred VanVleet / 2 Zach LaVine / 3 Dejounte Murray.
- G-004 CARDS 105, 115 AND 122 ARE NOT ISSUED - AND THE PARALLEL-SET CHECK THAT REVERSED THE 2021-22 SIBLING COULD NOT BE RUN. THIS IS THE WEAK POINT OF THE FINDING AND IT IS RECORDED AS SUCH. What IS established, five ways: (1) tcdb states it in words, which no prior season of this line did - the parent set note reads "No #105, 115, and 122" (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic); (2) the parent checklist goes 104b straight to 106, 114b straight to 116 and 121b straight to 123 (https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=2); (3) Errors.cfm states "32 record(s)" over 101b-135b with no 105b, 115b or 122b (https://www.tcdb.com/Errors.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic); (4) checklistcenter states both "Rookie Season Ticket Auto Set" and "Rookie Variation Season Ticket Auto Set" are "32 Cards" (https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/) - 32, not 35, which is the arithmetic consequence of exactly three unissued numbers in 101-135; (5) 100 + 32 = 132 = the parent's own stated Total Cards (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic). WHAT COULD NOT BE DONE: the 2022-23 sibling settled the identical question by opening tcdb's OWN Red and Blue parallel sets and confirming they skipped the numbers too - the check that had proved the 2021-22 sibling WRONG about card 111. Here no block-spanning parallel sid is reachable at all: tcdb's Inserts.cfm renders 160 of its stated "Insert Sets (177)" and stops before the "Parallel Sets" heading (https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic), whose members carry the base and block parallels; only two of them (Black Pandora 496254, Silver 496255) were found, by web search, and BOTH are noted "Partial parallel; cards #1-100 only" and therefore do not span the block. Probing adjacent sids proved both boundaries of that pair are foreign products (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496253/x is 2024-25 Panini Prizm and https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496256/x is 2025 Upper Deck 4 Nations Face-Off), so the block parallels are scattered in sid space and were not enumerable. A marketplace sweep for any 2023-24 Contenders Optic card numbered 105, 115 or 122 returned nothing, but absence of a listing is not evidence. The residual risk is therefore the same shape as the 2021-22 false positive, mitigated by the fact that tcdb here makes a POSITIVE statement ("No #105, 115, and 122") rather than merely skipping the numbers. NOTE this affects only the autograph block, which base_cards.csv excludes; base cards 1-100 are contiguous with no gaps.
- G-005 The parent "Total Cards" figure of 132 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic) counts DISTINCT CARD NUMBERS, not rendered rows: the parent renders 1-100 (100 rows) plus 101-135 less 105, 115 and 122 (32 rows) plus 101b-135b less 105b, 115b and 122b (32 variation rows), i.e. about 164 rows. Recorded because on this release 132 happens to equal base_set_size + the Rookie Season Ticket block exactly, which makes it look like a corroboration of the base size when it is not an independent one. EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.2 warns that Total Cards counts different things on different lines.
- G-006 Release date written as 2025-01-10. SIX sources agree: tcdb's parent set page "Release Date: January 10, 2025" (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic); checklistcenter "Release Date: January 10, 2025" (https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/); checklistinsider "January 10, 2025" (https://www.checklistinsider.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball); gogts.net "Friday, January 10, 2025" (https://gogts.net/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-nba-basketball-cards-checklist/); cardsmithsbreaks "January 10, 2025" (https://cardsmithsbreaks.com/full-checklist/2023-24-contenders-optic-basketball/); midwestcards "2025-01-10" (https://www.midwestcards.com/shop/basketball-cards/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-hobby-box/). No source disagrees. NOTE the 1st Off The Line SKU carries a different and EARLIER date - steelcitycollectibles states "12/23/24" (https://www.steelcitycollectibles.com/i/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-hobby-box---1st-off-the-line-(fotl)) - which is normal for FOTL and is not a contradiction of the hobby release date; release_date carries the hobby date per EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.1. NOTE ALSO this is an extraordinarily late date for a 2023-24 product: it postdates the 2023-24 Donruss Optic release (data/optic-bkb-2023-24 carries 2024-06-14) by seven months and the 2023-24 Contenders release (data/contenders-bkb-2023-24 carries 2024-06-21) by almost seven, and it lands in the middle of the 2024-25 season. That is the same late-in-the-cycle pattern the four prior seasons of this line show, only more extreme, and it bears on the last-season question in gap G-024.
- G-007 CHANNEL: THE THREE-SEASON "UNKNOWN ON THE WAVE/PANDORA/PULSAR FINISHES" CALL WAS RE-RUN, NOT COPIED, AND IT CHANGED - HERE IS EXACTLY WHY. In 2019-20 through 2022-23 this line's Wave tiers were the regional ones and tcdb marked SOME of them "Asia/Tmall box exclusive" while leaving others silent, so silence was not evidence either way and the finishes were written channel=UNKNOWN with an EMPTY basis. THIS SEASON THE WAVE FAMILY DOES NOT EXIST. Its place is taken by six tiers explicitly prefixed "International", and the regional set is ENUMERATED by a source rather than left to inference: the 2023-24 International Hobby Box product page states "Search for a wide range of new exclusive parallels for Season Ticket and Rookies sets in International Red, International Blue (#'d/45), International Black and White (#'d/25), International Gold (#'d/10), International Jade Cracked Ice (#'d/5) and International Red Pandora (One-of-One)!" (https://www.schkstore.com/products/2023-24-contenders-optic-basketball-international-hobby-box) - naming the Season Ticket (base) set and the Rookies set explicitly - and the same page states "Find 1 Hobby International-Exclusive Rookie card in each box, on average!". Those six tiers are therefore written channel=international / channel_basis=sourced-exclusive / channel_class=regional, with channel_sku "International Hobby Box". THE PROBE THAT JUSTIFIED THE OLD CALL WAS RE-RUN AND CAME BACK CLEAN: tcdb's own pages for the International tiers carry a serial note and NO exclusivity note of any kind - "Serial numbered to 45" and nothing else on Rookies International Blue (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496176/x), "Serial numbered to 10" on Rookies International Gold (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496183/x) - so there is no "Asia/Tmall" note this season to create the asymmetry that forced UNKNOWN before. CONSEQUENTLY Black Pandora and Green Pulsar, which the 2022-23 sibling wrote UNKNOWN, are written channel=hobby / channel_basis=from-note here alongside the rest of the ordinary ladder: both appear in the standard Base ladder of both aggregators, neither appears in the enumerated International-exclusive list, and the Pandora family demonstrably spans both cases this season (plain Black Pandora is standard, International Red Pandora is International), so the family name does not determine the channel. THIS IS A DELIBERATE DEPARTURE FROM THREE SEASONS OF THIS LINE AND IS FLAGGED HERE RATHER THAN MADE SILENTLY. "asia" was NOT used: the word the sources actually use is "International", the SKU is named "International Hobby Box", and the tier names themselves carry the word - unlike 2019-20, where a T-Mall note justified china, and 2022-23, where an "Asia/Tmall" note justified asia. The catalogue now holds three different values across five seasons of one line for what may be the same commercial arrangement. [REVIEWED 2026-08-19: still open; 32 of 181 parallels lack a sourced channel.]
- G-008 THE BASE-SET PARALLEL SIDS ARE VERIFIED BUT LARGELY UNREACHABLE ON tcdb, AND THIS IS A MEASURED ENDPOINT FAILURE, NOT A COVERAGE CHOICE. EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.2 records that Inserts.cfm does not paginate and truncates before the Parallel Sets heading on a large Optic parent for three consecutive seasons; this is the fourth. Measured here: the page heads "Insert Sets (177)" and delivers 160 of them, ending mid-run at "Veteran Ticket International Jade Cracked Ice (sid/559309)" (https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic). The remaining 17 insert sids AND the entire "Parallel Sets" section are never delivered. Confirmed four ways: a focused re-ask with a cache-busting parameter returned "PARALLEL SETS HEADING NOT PRESENT"; ?PageIndex=2 changed nothing (Inserts.cfm does not paginate); a request to enumerate the last 40 sets working backwards from the end of the document returned the same terminal set; and the page's own navigation anchors DO contain a "Parallel Sets" heading, so the section exists and is simply never rendered to the fetch. Alternative routes all failed: the parent ViewSet page has no parallel section (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic); a base card's detail page carries no parallel list; tcdb's Search.cfm returned no set results, exactly as EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.2 warns. Only two base-parallel sids were recovered at all, by web search - Black Pandora (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496254/x) and Silver (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496255/x) - and BOTH BOUNDARIES OF THAT PAIR WERE PROVED FOREIGN (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496253/x is 2024-25 Panini Prizm - Luck of the Lottery, https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496256/x is 2025 Upper Deck 4 Nations Face-Off), so the remaining base parallels are scattered in sid space and sid extrapolation cannot reach them. CONSEQUENCE: 22 of the 24 base-scope parallel rows cite their tier's existence and run to the two aggregator ladders plus a within-product calibration at the sibling Rookies scope (gap G-009), not to that tier's own tcdb page. A later pass that can reach the Parallel Sets section should re-read all 24.
- G-009 SOURCE CALIBRATION RUN BEFORE ANY AGGREGATOR FIGURE WAS TRUSTED, AND IT IS THE STRONGEST FORM AVAILABLE THIS SEASON: 21 OF 21, ZERO FAILURES. The base parallel ladder could not be read off tcdb tier by tier (gap G-008), so the ladder that the aggregators publish for the BASE set was tested against tcdb at the sibling "Rookies" scope, where tcdb DOES give all 25 tiers their own sids and states each run in a set-level note. Every one of the 25 Rookies sids was fetched. The two ladders are the same ladder: checklistinsider's base ladder is "Black Pandora; International Red; Red; Silver; Blue /99; Pink /75; Orange /49; International Blue /45; Green Pulsar /25; International Black & White /25; Cracked Ice /23; Purple FOTL /18; Purple /15; Gold /10; International Gold /10; International Jade Cracked Ice /5; Black FOTL /3; Gold Lazer /2; Gold Vinyl 1/1; International Red Pandora 1/1; Printing Plates 1/1" (https://www.checklistinsider.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball) and tcdb's Rookies ladder carries exactly those 21 names plus a plain "International", with exactly those figures - Blue 99, Pink 75, Orange 49, International Blue 45, Green Pulsar 25, International Black and White 25, Cracked Ice 23, Purple FOTL 18, Purple 15, Gold 10, International Gold 10, International Jade Cracked Ice 5, Black FOTL 3, Gold Lazer 2, Gold Vinyl 1/1, International Red Pandora 1/1, Printing Plates 1/1, and NO note at all on Silver, Black Pandora, International Red and Red. 17 figures matched and 4 unnumbered tiers matched; nothing failed. checklistcenter agrees with checklistinsider on every tier both carry ("Black Pandora; Red; Silver; Blue #/99; Pink #/75; Orange #/49; Green Pulsar #/25; Cracked Ice #/23; Purple FOTL #/18; Purple #/15; Gold #/10; Black FOTL #/3; Gold Lazer #/2; Gold Vinyl 1/1; Printing Plates 1/1", https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/) and the two DISAGREE on membership - checklistcenter omits all six International tiers - which is itself evidence they are not one opinion copied twice. Two further direct base-scope reads passed (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496255/x Silver and https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496254/x Black Pandora, both "Partial parallel; cards #1-100 only" with no serial note) and two insert-scope reads passed ("SN175" on Hoop Dreams Red Cracked Ice https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496150/x and "SN75" on Hoop Dreams Blue Cracked Ice https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496151/x).
- G-010 cardboardconnection's 2023-24 PAGE EXISTS AND ITS CONTENT IS FABRICATED AT SOURCE. IT WAS REJECTED IN FULL AND NOTHING IN THIS RELEASE RESTS ON IT. This is a worse failure than the 2022-23 sibling's, where the same site simply returned HTTP 404 - a 404 cannot mislead. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-review-and-checklist renders a real-looking review article, but calibration against tcdb fails catastrophically: it names "Stardust", "Playoff Ticket", "Finals Ticket", "Championship Tickets", "Veteran Autographs" and "Dual Autographs" as sets in this product, none of which tcdb catalogues, and it lists base parallels "Holo", "Green (numbered to 10... to 5)" and "Black 1/1" which appear in neither aggregator ladder. A narrow verbatim re-fetch was run to establish whether the fault was the page or the fetch layer, and it is the PAGE: the re-fetch confirmed the string "Stardust" is present with the gloss "A unique insert with a starry design, offering a flashy look and a nod to the brightest players in the league", and confirmed that "Playing the Numbers Game" and "Hoop Dreams" - two sets with real tcdb sids in this product (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/492631/x, https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496148/x) - do NOT appear on the page at all. The page reads as machine-generated SEO filler. EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.3 tells you to calibrate an aggregator on a question you can check before trusting it on one you cannot; this is the first time on this line that the test has failed outright rather than partially, and it is the reason fabrication check 4 (cross-check set NAMES, not just contents) exists.
- G-011 CONTRADICTION AGAINST EXISTING CATALOGUE DATA, FOUND BY EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.5 AND NOT RESOLVED HERE. data/contendersoptic-bkb-2022-23 concludes in its release notes and in its gap G-004, five ways, that "CARDS 113 AND 125 ARE NOT ISSUED" in the 2022-23 release. tcdb now catalogues, INSIDE THIS SEASON'S PARENT, a set titled "2023-24 Panini Contenders Optic - 2022-23 Panini Contenders Optic Update I" with the set note "Cards from the 2022-23 Panini Contenders Optic base set that were produced too late to be included in packs", Total Cards "1", whose single card is #125 Andrew Nembhard with a 125b variation (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496229/x); tcdb also catalogues seven parallels of it (Blue 496230, Gold 496231, Gold Wave 496232, Gold Vinyl 496233, Green 496234, Orange 496235, Red 496236). So 2022-23 card 125 EXISTS as a physical card - it was produced too late for packs and issued as an Update - which is a different fact from "not issued", and the 2022-23 release row states the stronger claim. This is precisely the mirror trap EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.5 names: "this season's Update blocks can be filed under the NEXT season's parent, where an agent reading only its own parent sid will never see them." NOTHING WAS CHANGED IN THE 2022-23 DIRECTORY - it is not mine to touch. Note the finding does NOT overturn 2022-23 card 113, on which this set is silent, and does not affect any value in THIS release: the Update set is recorded in sets.csv flagged as a prior-season block and its numbering is kept out of this release's parallels.csv and base_cards.csv.
- G-012 32 SET-SCOPE PARALLEL ROWS CARRY print_run=UNKNOWN WITH serial_numbered=UNKNOWN, AND IN EVERY CASE THE TIER'S EXISTENCE IS SOURCED WHILE ITS RUN IS NOT. This is the expressiveness gap EXTRACTION_SPEC 6 describes, recurring for a fifth consecutive season on this line. The rows are: the three International tiers (International Red, International Jade Cracked Ice) plus Gold Vinyl on each of the eight insert sets that carry a full eight-sid ladder on tcdb; the three International tiers of 1986 Tribute Autographs; the two of Veteran Ticket; all four tiers each of Perennial Contenders Autographs, Punched Ticket Autographs and Up and Coming Autographs; and all five of Induction Ticket Autographs. EVERY ONE carries its own tcdb sid in visual_notes, so its existence is beyond doubt. WHY THE RUN WAS NOT WRITTEN: checklistinsider publishes a five-tier ladder for each insert set ("Red Cracked Ice /175; Blue Cracked Ice /75; Green Pulsar /25; International Black & White /25; Gold /10", https://www.checklistinsider.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball) while tcdb catalogues EIGHT sids for each of those same sets, so the aggregator ladder is demonstrably INCOMPLETE and its silence on the other three tiers is not a statement that they are unnumbered; checklistcenter publishes no ladder at all for the insert sets or for Perennial/Punched/Up and Coming/Induction. The runs were NOT inherited from the base or Rookies ladder, which would be a derivation and not a source (EXTRACTION_SPEC 0). Each is one fetch of its own tcdb page away from being resolved and the sids are listed on the rows for exactly that reason. NOTE no base-scope row carries UNKNOWN: all 24 base-set rows have a sourced run.
- G-013 ONE VALUE IS GENUINELY CONTESTED AND WAS NOT PICKED. The Rookie Season Ticket block's "Pink FOTL" tier is stated by checklistcenter as "Pink FOTL #/15" (https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/) and by the 1st Off The Line hobby box product page as "Look for 1 FOTL-Exclusive Autograph per box, on average, in Purple FOTL (#'d/18), Pink FOTL (#'d/13) and Black FOTL (#'d/3) parallels!" (https://www.steelcitycollectibles.com/i/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-hobby-box---1st-off-the-line-(fotl)), i.e. #'d/13. Two sources, two figures, two apart. The row is written print_run=UNKNOWN with value_contested=yes rather than taking a side; no third source was reachable (beckett is down, cardboardconnection is fabricated, and the tier has no reachable tcdb sid because it is a block parallel - see gaps G-008 and G-016). NOTE the same two sources AGREE exactly on the other two FOTL figures, Purple FOTL #/18 and Black FOTL #/3, so this is a single discrepancy and not a systematic offset.
- G-014 SET AND TIER NAMING: four unresolved naming questions, none of which affects a count. (1) THE BIGGEST: the autograph block is written "Rookie Season Ticket" and "Rookie Season Ticket Variation" because that is what the only sources that name it this season print - checklistcenter heads "Rookie Season Ticket Auto Set" and "Rookie Variation Season Ticket Auto Set" (https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/) and breakninja renders "Rookie Season Ticket" and "Rookie Variation Season Ticket" - whereas ALL FOUR PRIOR SEASONS of this line carry "Rookie Ticket" / "Rookie Ticket Variation" (2020-21 carries "Rookie Ticket Variations"). The block has no tcdb sid, so tcdb supplies no canonical name. Following the sources breaks the line's five-season self-consistency; following the line would mean writing a name no 2023-24 source prints. The sources were followed and the divergence is recorded here. Note data/contenders-bkb-2023-24 itself carries BOTH forms ("Rookie Ticket Autographs" and "Rookie Season Ticket Variations"), so the catalogue is already inconsistent. (2) The base set is written "Base Set", the catalogue-wide structural label, though the product's own name for it is "Season Ticket". (3) Base-scope printing plates are written "Printing Plate Black/Cyan/Magenta/Yellow" (singular), as all four prior seasons of this line write them, while tcdb prints the Rookies-scope ones "Rookies Printing Plates Black" (plural) (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496189/x); the Rookies-scope rows in this file use tcdb's plural form and the base-scope rows use the line's singular form, so the two spellings coexist in this release on purpose. (4) "Jade Cracked Ice" on the Rookie Season Ticket ladder is written as checklistcenter prints it, without the "International" prefix the same finish carries at base and Rookies scope; whether the prefix was dropped by the aggregator or the tier is genuinely different was not established, and that row alone is written channel=UNKNOWN for that reason. [REVIEWED 2026-08-19: still open; 32 of 181 parallels lack a sourced channel.]
- G-015 rookie_flag IS WRITTEN UNKNOWN ON ALL 100 BASE CARDS, WHICH DIVERGES FROM THE 2022-23 SIBLING OF THIS LINE ON THE SAME EVIDENCE SHAPE, AND THE DIVERGENCE IS DELIBERATE. The tcdb evidence is identical to 2022-23's: the renderer prints no (RC) token on any of cards 1-100 (https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=1, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=8, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=9, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=10) while printing "AU, RC" on every one of rows 101-135 (https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=2) - a within-sid discriminative test. data/contendersoptic-bkb-2022-23 read that test as evidenced absence and wrote rookie_flag=no on all 100, and explicitly recorded that the temporal check passed because every rookie in its base run was a PRIOR-season rookie. THAT CHECK FAILS HERE. This season's base run contains at least thirteen genuine 2023-24 rookies - 9 Jarace Walker, 11 Brandon Miller, 18 Jordan Hawkins, 24 Anthony Black, 46 Scoot Henderson, 55 Cam Whitmore, 56 Victor Wembanyama, 60 Gradey Dick, 67 Jaime Jaquez Jr., 72 Jalen Hood-Schifino, 78 Taylor Hendricks, 96 Nick Smith Jr., 99 Jett Howard - so writing rookie_flag=no would assert that Victor Wembanyama's 2023-24 Season Ticket card is not a rookie card, which is a substantive claim no source makes and which data/optic-bkb-2023-24 contradicts for the same players (it carries rookie_flag=yes for Wembanyama, Brandon Miller, Scoot Henderson, Cam Whitmore and Jaime Jaquez Jr. in the same season). data/contenders-bkb-2023-24, whose base run has the identical shape - a 100-card Season Ticket set mixing veterans and 2023-24 rookies - carries UNKNOWN on all 100. UNKNOWN is written here to match my own season's nearest sibling and to avoid asserting a fact no source states. THE COST IS REAL AND IS RECORDED: it discards tcdb's genuine signal for the ~87 veterans, for whom "no" would have been both sourced and temporally coherent. A repair pass with a source that publishes RC designations should revisit all 100, and should also revisit contendersoptic-bkb-2022-23, because the two seasons of one line now answer this question differently.
- G-016 SOURCE POSITION, STATED HONESTLY. (1) beckett.com is unreachable for a SIXTH consecutive pass on this line: https://www.beckett.com/news/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-cards/ returns HTTP 302 to https://beckett-maintenance-page.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html, the same maintenance redirect recorded in contendersoptic-bkb-2019-20 G-015, 2020-21 G-017, 2021-22 G-010 and 2022-23 G-016. (2) cardboardconnection has a page this season where it had none in 2022-23, and the page is fabricated - see gap G-010 - so the aggregator is not merely absent, it is actively misleading. (3) WHAT REPLACED THEM, AND THIS SEASON IS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN 2022-23: checklistinsider (https://www.checklistinsider.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball) is a genuinely new second aggregator for this line, it publishes a fuller base ladder than checklistcenter, and it passed 21 of 21 calibration points (gap G-009); and TWO FIRST-PARTY RETAILER PRODUCT PAGES supplied channel evidence no aggregator carries - the International Hobby Box page (https://www.schkstore.com/products/2023-24-contenders-optic-basketball-international-hobby-box) and the 1st Off The Line box page (https://www.steelcitycollectibles.com/i/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-hobby-box---1st-off-the-line-(fotl)). (4) WHERE IT IS STILL THIN: 22 of 24 base-scope parallel rows rest on the two aggregator ladders plus sibling-scope calibration rather than on that tier's own tcdb page (gap G-008); the VIPs insert set rests on checklistinsider alone for its count (gap G-018); and 32 set-scope rows have no print run from any source (gap G-012). (5) gogts.net renders a title, date and box-contents line but its parallel figures are unreliable - it prints both "Pink (#'d /49)" and "Orange (#'d /49)" (https://gogts.net/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-nba-basketball-cards-checklist/) where every other source and tcdb give Pink 75 and Orange 49 - so it was used for the release date and box contents only and for no figure. (6) cardsmithsbreaks renders only a title and release date (https://cardsmithsbreaks.com/full-checklist/2023-24-contenders-optic-basketball/). (7) nbatradingcards.com was blocked by robots.txt. (8) Direct HTTPS to tcdb via curl is refused by this environment's egress proxy, so WebFetch and its truncation were the only route in and raw HTML was not available as a fabrication control, exactly as EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.2 says. [REVIEWED 2026-08-19: count is now 32 of 181 - the channel pass resolved -11 of these with cited evidence. Gap remains open for the rest.]
- G-017 PARALLEL FAMILIES USED, reported for checking per EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.3. ONE FAMILY WAS MINTED: "Lazer", for the Gold Lazer tier, which is new to this line this season and appears at base, Rookies, Rookie Season Ticket, 1986 Tribute and Veteran Ticket scope. It was minted rather than filed under "other" because it is a distinct optical finish carried across five scopes, not a colour name; it should be checked against the rest of the catalogue's 12,803 parallel rows before it becomes a synonym for something that already exists. THE FAMILY "International" IS USED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON THIS LINE and was not minted - it is in EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.3's own example list. It is the direct successor to the "Wave" family that carried the regional tiers in all four prior seasons, and it is applied to all six International tiers including International Jade Cracked Ice and International Red Pandora, whose finishes are Cracked Ice and Pandora respectively - the regional grouping was preferred over the finish grouping because that is what the 2022-23 sibling did with Wave. THE OTHER FAMILIES are Pandora, Pulsar, Vinyl, Printing Plate, Cracked Ice and other, every one inherited from the prior seasons of this line. The 2022-23 families Wave and the 2021-22 family 75th Anniversary do not recur.
- G-018 THE "VIPs" INSERT SET IS WRITTEN ON A SINGLE SOURCE FOR ITS COUNT AND TWO FOR ITS EXISTENCE. checklistinsider states "VIPs (21)" (https://www.checklistinsider.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball); midwestcards independently names it - "newly added Rookie Roundup and VIPs" (https://www.midwestcards.com/shop/basketball-cards/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-hobby-box/) - but publishes no count. It has NO reachable tcdb sid, and that absence is EXPLAINED rather than evidential: "VIPs" sorts alphabetically after "Veteran Ticket ..." and tcdb's Inserts.cfm delivers only 160 of its stated "Insert Sets (177)", ending at "Veteran Ticket International Jade Cracked Ice" (https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic), so the tail that would contain VIPs is never rendered. The set is written because two sources name it and one gives a count; the count is single-source and is flagged in the row's notes. No parallels were written for it.
- G-019 A PRIOR-SEASON BLOCK SHIPS INSIDE THIS PRODUCT (EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.5) and is recorded in sets.csv as "2022-23 Panini Contenders Optic Update I" with card_count 1. Its numbering belongs to the 2022-23 release, not this one, and has been kept strictly separate: its card is #125, which collides head-on with this release's own base card 125 slot were the two ever merged - except that this release's 125 is a Rookie Season Ticket autograph (Sasha Vezenkov) and the Update card is a 2022-23 base Season Ticket card (Andrew Nembhard). NEITHER the Update card NOR any of its seven parallel sids (Blue 496230, Gold 496231, Gold Wave 496232, Gold Vinyl 496233, Green 496234, Orange 496235, Red 496236) is written into this release's base_cards.csv or parallels.csv. NOTE the set is named "Update I", with the roman numeral implying an "Update II" exists somewhere; no Update II sid was found under this parent.
- G-020 license_status was NOT supplied by the task prompt, which specified only product_name, season, manufacturer and league. "licensed (NBA/NBPA)" is written because that is what ALL FOUR prior seasons of this same line carry (data/contendersoptic-bkb-2019-20, -2020-21, -2021-22, -2022-23). NOTE that the two 2023-24 releases this product is most often confused with both carry the narrower "licensed (NBA)": data/contenders-bkb-2023-24 and data/optic-bkb-2023-24, both verified by reading their release.csv on 2026-09-13. No source was consulted on the NBPA question and no evidence supports either string over the other; the value is INHERITED, not sourced. This is the fifth season of this line to log the identical gap, which by now clearly wants a catalogue-wide decision rather than another per-release note.
- G-021 SCOPE MODELLING CHOICE, CARRIED FORWARD UNCHANGED FROM THE 2022-23 SIBLING'S GAP G-021 AND FLAGGED AGAIN BECAUSE THE SPEC STILL OFFERS A BETTER-FITTING VALUE. The Rookie Season Ticket block (101-135) has no sid of its own and is a numbered block inside the parent checklist, which is exactly what EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.3's scope_type value "block" describes. Its sixteen parallel rows are nevertheless written scope_type=set with scope="Rookie Season Ticket", because that is how data/contendersoptic-bkb-2021-22 and data/contendersoptic-bkb-2022-23 model the identical structure on the identical line, and because the block is carried as a sets.csv row in this release and in those. Changing it here alone would split the line across five seasons for no gain. If a repair pass moves these to "block", it should move all five seasons of contendersoptic together.
- G-022 ENDPOINT BEHAVIOUR MEASURED AGAIN, CONFIRMING EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.2 AND ADDING FOUR NUMBERS. (1) Checklist.cfm?PageIndex=1 on the parent delivered rows 1-74 of 100 and reported "Highest card number rendered: 74" - the truncation again presenting itself as the end of the page. 74 sits at the very bottom of the 74-86 band the spec records from six agents, and below the 82 the 2022-23 sibling measured. Cards 75-100 were recovered from Gallery pages 8, 9 and 10 (https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=8, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=9, https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=10), 10 tiles each, with the 71-74 overlap agreeing row for row against Checklist page 1 (71 Kristaps Porzingis, 72 Jalen Hood-Schifino, 73 Josh Giddey, 74 Jerami Grant on both). (2) PageIndex=2 delivered the whole 101-135 block plus its 32 variations - 64 rows - without truncating, so the truncation is a body-size effect and not a fixed row index, the same conclusion the 2021-22 and 2022-23 siblings reached. (3) PageIndex=3 rendered NO ROWS (https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/461491/2023-24-Panini-Contenders-Optic?PageIndex=3), which per the spec is the genuine end of the set rather than a truncation. (4) Shape-of-ask confirmed throughout: asks that ENUMERATE what is wanted ("for each row give the card number, player, team and any flag tokens") succeeded on full pages; no ask was refused in this pass. (5) NEW MEASUREMENT WORTH RECORDING: Inserts.cfm's truncation point was probed four different ways on the same URL with cache-busting parameters and it did not move - 160 of 177 every time - so unlike Checklist.cfm this is a hard ceiling and not a variable one (gap G-008). (6) Every count in this release was taken by counting the enumerated items, never from a fetch's own stated total; the 32-number block was counted by hand from the enumerated numbers, not from any asserted tally.
- G-023 NO PACK ODDS AND NO SCARCITY TIERS WERE FOUND FOR ANY SET IN THIS RELEASE. stated_odds, odds_evidence_url and odds_evidence_quote are EMPTY on every sets.csv and parallels.csv row, and scarcity_tier is unset throughout. What the sources do publish is per-box CONFIGURATION, which is not pack odds: checklistcenter "Configuration: 6 Cards Per Pack; 1 Pack Per Box; 20 Boxes Per Case" and "Hobby boxes include 1 signed card each and a full team-by-team breakdown of the release can be found at Breakninja.com." (https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/); midwestcards "1 Autograph", "2 Parallels", "2 Inserts" (https://www.midwestcards.com/shop/basketball-cards/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-hobby-box/); the FOTL box "Search for 1 FOTL-Exclusive parallel per box, on average, in Purple FOTL (#'d/18) and Black FOTL (#'d/3)!" (https://www.steelcitycollectibles.com/i/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-hobby-box---1st-off-the-line-(fotl)); the International box "(1) Rookie International EXCLUSIVE", "(2) Additional International EXCLUSIVE Parallels", "(2) Base Cards", "(1) Insert" (https://www.schkstore.com/products/2023-24-contenders-optic-basketball-international-hobby-box). NOTE that unlike 2022-23, tcdb carries NO "SSP" marking on this season's Black Pandora - its base sid states only "Partial parallel; cards #1-100 only" (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496254/x) - and neither aggregator ladder marks it SSP, so no scarcity_tier was inherited from the sibling season. That is a change from 2022-23 and is recorded rather than carried over.
- G-024 IS 2023-24 THE LAST SEASON OF PANINI CONTENDERS OPTIC BASKETBALL? THE EVIDENCE POINTS YES BUT IS NOT CONCLUSIVE, AND IT IS RECORDED AS A QUESTION. FOR: (1) tcdb's own season index for the following year was not consulted, but the 2023 index (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewAll.cfm/sp/Basketball/year/2023) lists exactly two Contenders products, 2023-24 Panini Contenders (sid 404443) and 2023-24 Panini Contenders Optic (sid 461491). (2) The release date is extraordinary: 2025-01-10, seven months after its own season's Donruss Optic and Contenders releases and squarely inside the 2024-25 season (gap G-006) - the profile of a product being flushed out at the end of a licence rather than scheduled. (3) Panini's NBA licence passed to Fanatics/Topps for 2025-26, which bounds the line independently of anything on these pages. (4) data/contenders-bkb-2023-24 reached the parallel conclusion for the non-Optic line and recorded it in its own gap G-011: "no 2024-25 NBA Contenders checklist exists on any consulted checklist site and DA Card World's Contenders index skips from 2023/24 to an unlicensed 2025/26 product". AGAINST / UNRESOLVED: no source consulted in THIS pass makes a positive statement that the line ended, and no search for a 2024-25 Contenders Optic checklist was run as part of this pass, so the "last season" claim in the task prompt is NOT independently confirmed here. It is also worth recording that the sibling line's own gap notes a single retailer placeholder for a 2024/25 Contenders product that appears never to have shipped, so a placeholder listing for a 2024-25 Contenders Optic would not by itself refute the conclusion. The task prompt described the 2024-25 question as "contested" and nothing found here settles it.
- G-025 ONE TIER EXISTS AT THE SIBLING SCOPE AND WAS DELIBERATELY NOT WRITTEN AT BASE SCOPE. tcdb catalogues a plain, unqualified "Rookies International" tier (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/496170/x, Total Cards "25", no set note, no serial token) alongside the six prefixed International tiers. NO base-scope counterpart is written, because checklistinsider's base ladder - the only ladder that carries the International tiers at all - lists six and not seven (https://www.checklistinsider.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball), and the International Hobby Box page's enumeration likewise names six, beginning with "International Red" and not with a plain "International" (https://www.schkstore.com/products/2023-24-contenders-optic-basketball-international-hobby-box). So two independent sources agree the base ladder has six, while the Rookies ladder demonstrably has seven. That asymmetry may be real or may be an omission by both sources; it was not resolved, and a row was not minted on the strength of a sibling scope. This is the same reasoning the 2022-23 sibling used in its gap G-017 when it declined to write "Base Asia" on one aggregator line.
- G-026 THE ROOKIE SEASON TICKET VARIATION BLOCK IS CARRIED IN sets.csv BUT HAS NO PARALLEL ROWS, AND THAT IS A DELIBERATE OMISSION RATHER THAN AN OVERSIGHT. The 2022-23 sibling wrote eight parallel rows for "Rookie Ticket Variation" as well as eight for "Rookie Ticket", because it could open tcdb's Red and Blue parallel sids and SEE both the 101 and the 101b rows rendered inside them. No such sid is reachable this season (gap G-008), and checklistcenter publishes one ladder headed "Rookie Season Ticket Auto Set" and none headed for the variation set (https://www.checklistcenter.com/2023-24-panini-contenders-optic-basketball-card-checklist/). Writing the same sixteen tiers at variation scope would therefore be an inference from the sibling season's structure, not a sourced fact, so no rows were written. The sixteen tiers ARE written at "Rookie Season Ticket" scope, where a source states them.
