  • G-001 RELEASE DATE CONTESTED AND NOT MERGED, AND THE MAJORITY IS AGAINST THE VALUE WRITTEN. Written: 2016-11-23, from tcdb's parent page, "Release Date: November 23, 2016", unqualified and not labelled an estimate (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/136418/zzz-donruss-probe-slug). TWO other pages print November 25 and neither labels itself an estimate: cardboardconnection's product page "11/25/2016" (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards) and DA Card World "November 25th, 2016" (https://www.dacardworld.com/sports-cards/2016-17-panini-donruss-basketball-hobby-box). tcdb was preferred on the ground the 2016-17 scope memo section 1b measured - its parent Release Date line is this season's best date source, unqualified on 23 of 26 parents, and it is a retrospective database record rather than a pre-release announcement, which is the discriminator that settled the same shape on optic-bkb-2016-17. THAT REASONING IS WEAKER HERE THAN IT WAS THERE: on Optic the April-5 pages were demonstrably forecasts with measurable publication distance (a Panini blog post 6.5 weeks ahead, a blowoutbuzz post 9 weeks ahead), whereas NEITHER November-25 page here carries a publication date I could read, so I could not test whether they are forecasts or records, and I could not test whether they are two lineages or one. A repair pass may legitimately reverse this to 2016-11-25. A THIRD figure exists and was NOT used: cardboardconnection's season index prints "Nov 28, 2016" beside a byline (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/sports-cards-sets/nba-basketball-cards/2016-2017-basketball-cards), disagreeing with cardboardconnection's OWN product page by three days - which reproduces the 2016-17 scope memo section 1a finding that the cc season index is not a release-date field, now on a second product.
  • G-002 base_print_run=unnumbered is written on basis "assumed", NOT "sourced", and the distinction is load-bearing. No source states in words that 2016-17 Donruss base cards carry no serial number. What exists is a within-parent positive discriminative test: tcdb renders no serial token on any of the 200 parent rows across eight separate fetches of sid 136418, while rendering a serial token on every rendered row of twelve of this release's fourteen base parallel sids (SN299, SN199, SN99, SN75, SN49, SN25, SN15, SN10, SN1). EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.1 is explicit that this shape is "assumed". TO RESOLVE: a 2016-17 wrapper, sell sheet or first-party statement. https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/136418/2016-17-Donruss
  • G-003 BASE CARD TIERS WERE WRITTEN AND THE 151-200 BLOCK IS NAMED "Rookies", WHICH DIVERGES FROM BOTH SEASONS ABOVE THIS ONE AND FROM THE SISTER LINE BUILT THE SAME WEEK. The 150/50 structure is sourced twice over: tcdb renders "RC" on every row 151-200 and on no row 1-150, and cardboardconnection prints a "Rookies" heading inside its "Base Set Checklist" running from "151 Ben Simmons - Philadelphia 76ers" to "200 Ron Baker - New York Knicks". WHAT IS NOT SOURCED IN 2016-17 IS THE NAME "Rated Rookies": donruss-bkb-2017-18 and donruss-bkb-2018-19 both carry a tier of that name for 151-200, sourced there from tcdb rendering the tokens "RR, RC" on the block, and tcdb renders NO "RR" token anywhere in 2016-17. The 2016-17 name was therefore taken from the only 2016-17 source that names the block. SEPARATELY FLAGGED: the tier_name "Base" for cards 1-150 is NOT printed by any 2016-17 source - it is the label donruss-bkb-2017-18 uses for the same block, carried over so the line reads consistently across seasons, and it is a structural label rather than a sourced name. NOTE ALSO optic-bkb-2016-17, built this same round on the sister line, deliberately wrote NO base_card_tiers.csv for an identical 150/50 RC split, because cardboardconnection gave it no quotable heading; this release got one, so the two 2016-17 releases diverge on tier presence for an evidential reason rather than a conventional one. A reader comparing them should know that. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards ; https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/136418/2016-17-Donruss?PageIndex=2
  • G-004 ZERO OF THE FOURTEEN BASE PARALLELS ARE PER-CARD VARIABLE, AND THE DENOMINATORS BEHIND THAT ARE PARTIAL. Each of the fourteen tiers states "Total Cards: 200" and was swept on Checklist.cfm pages 1 AND 2 under ?sort=0, with the distinct serial-token set enumerated over every rendered row rather than sampled. Every tier returned exactly ONE token (or none, on the two unnumbered tiers) and no tier showed a second serial token anywhere. But rows actually rendered per tier ranged from 84 to 124 of 200, so between 76 and 116 rows per tier were NEVER RENDERED to me. Per-tier rendered counts: Green and Yellow Holo Laser 124, Red Holo Laser 121, Blue Holo Laser 114, Press Proof Blue 107, Press Proof Black 101, Yellow Holo Laser 100, Purple Holo Laser 100, Press Proof Purple 100, Press Proof Red 100, Press Proof Gold 100, Green Holo Laser 95, Orange Holo Laser 90, Red and Blue Holo Laser 90, Press Proof Silver 84. "No second token was rendered" is weaker than "no second token exists". TO RESOLVE: Gallery.cfm top-ups across the unrendered spans of each tier.
  • G-005 FOUR INSERT-SCOPE TIERS ARE PROVABLY SERIAL NUMBERED WITH A PER-CARD VARIABLE RUN AND THE SCHEMA CANNOT EXPRESS IT, SO ALL FOUR CARRY print_run=UNKNOWN / serial_numbered=UNKNOWN. Back to the Future Materials Prime (sid 141015) renders {MEM, SN10, SN3}, SN3 on card 4 alone. Jersey Series Prime (141046) renders {MEM, SN10, SN8, SN7, SN3} - SN3 on card 17, SN8 on 19, SN7 on 25. Swatch Kings Jumbo Prime (141058) renders {MEM, SN10, SN7, SN6} - SN6 on cards 1 and 11, SN7 on 19, and card 9 has no Prime at all. Timeless Treasures Materials Signatures Prime (141072) renders {AU, MEM, SN25, SN5} - SN25 on 1-11 and SN5 on 12-25. EVERY ONE OF THE FOUR IS INDEPENDENTLY CONFIRMED BY cardboardconnection, character for character on the exceptions: "Prime #/10 (*Card #4 - #/3)", "Prime #/10 (*Cards #17 - #/3, 19 - #/8, 25 - #/7)", "Prime #/10 (*No card #/9; cards #1, 11 - #/6, 19 - #/7)" and "PARALLEL CARDS PRIME: Cards #1-11 - #/25; Cards #12-25 - #/5". This is the fifth-consecutive-season expressiveness gap recorded in CAV-041. All four are set-scope, where UNKNOWN is at least legal; had any been base-scope there would be NO LEGAL ROW and the tier would have had to be deleted. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards ; https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/136418/2016-17-Donruss
  • G-006 FIVE SETS ARE SERIAL NUMBERED AND sets.csv HAS NO print_run COLUMN, SO THE FIGURES SURVIVE ONLY IN PROSE. Rookie Materials Signatures: {AU, MEM, SN75} uniform on every rendered row, and cardboardconnection states "34 cards. Serial Numbered #/75." Swatch Kings Jumbo: {MEM, SN99} uniform on all 25 rows, cardboardconnection "25 cards. Serial Numbered #/99." Back to the Future Materials: {MEM, SN199, SN150}, card 4 alone at SN150 - VARIABLE. Dominator Signatures: {AU, SN49, SN25} - VARIABLE. Hall Dominator Signatures: {AU, SN49, SN25} - VARIABLE. Rookie Dominator Signatures: {AU, SN50, SN60, SN65} - VARIABLE. Elite Signatures: {AU, SN99, SN25, SN49} - VARIABLE, and DA Card World describes the whole set as "every card sequentially #'d/99 or less", which is a CEILING and is not a print run. Timeless Treasures Materials Signatures: {AU, MEM, SN99, SN49}, SN99 on 1-11 and SN49 on 12-25 - VARIABLE. Nothing was written into card_count and no modal token was taken anywhere. TO RESOLVE: a print_run column on sets, or a per-card table. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards ; https://www.dacardworld.com/sports-cards/2016-17-panini-donruss-basketball-hobby-box
  • G-007 A CARD_COUNT UNIT TRAP FOUND AND RESOLVED, RECORDED SO IT IS NOT RE-INTRODUCED (EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.4). cardboardconnection states "99 cards." under a single heading "Dominator Signatures Set Checklist" and prints NO section at all for Hall Dominator Signatures or Rookie Dominator Signatures. tcdb files THREE separate sets with three sids and three headings: Dominator Signatures (141029) "Total Cards: 40", Hall Dominator Signatures (141076) "Total Cards: 30", Rookie Dominator Signatures (141073) "Total Cards: 29". 40 + 30 + 29 = 99 exactly. So cardboardconnection is counting the combined roster of all three under one heading and its 99 is not any one set's card count. tcdb's three figures are written. CONSEQUENCE FOR A LATER PASS: Hall Dominator Signatures and Rookie Dominator Signatures and their four parallels are SINGLE-SOURCE (tcdb only) for both existence and print run, because the only editorial lineage reachable for this release does not list them separately. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards ; https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/136418/2016-17-Donruss
  • G-008 FOUR tcdb "Total Cards" HEADERS DISAGREE WITH MY OWN COUNT OF THE RENDERED ROWS, RECORDED AS QUESTIONS ABOUT THE UNIT RATHER THAN AS PROOF THE HEADER IS STALE. Elite Signatures (141032): header 25 against rows to 100 - resolved in that set's own notes and NOT written. Rookie Dominator Signatures (141073): header 29, 30 rows rendered over 1-30; header written. Rookie Materials Signatures (141055): header 34, 35 rows rendered over 1-35 - but that set's own Prime parallel (141056) renders 34 rows over 1-35 with card 28 absent and states "Total Cards: 34", and cardboardconnection states 34, so the base page's 35th row is most likely a fetch miscount; 34 written. Newly Crowned Rookie Jerseys (141051): header 33, 32 rows rendered over span 2-35 - its own Prime parallel (141052) renders 33 rows over 2-35 with card 27 absent and no card 1, which reconciles the header exactly; 33 written. Three of the four were settled by opening a PARALLEL page of the same product, which is the CAV-044 procedure.
  • G-009 NO PARALLEL-LEVEL CHANNEL IS SOURCED FOR THIRTEEN OF THE FOURTEEN BASE PARALLELS, AND THIS IS A REVERSAL AGAINST THE SISTER LINE BUILT THE SAME WEEK. optic-bkb-2016-17 found cardboardconnection naming a retail SKU for every rung of its base ladder (Fat Pack, Blaster, Retail Box, Gravity Feed). cardboardconnection's 2016-17 DONRUSS page names no channel and no SKU for any parallel: asked directly whether the product is hobby-only, retail-only or channel-exclusive, the page states nothing, and DA Card World's hobby-box page likewise carries no exclusivity language for any parallel or insert. All thirteen therefore carry channel=UNKNOWN with an EMPTY channel_basis and an EMPTY channel_confidence, per EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.3 - declining to assign a channel is not "unsupported". WHAT IS KNOWN IS THAT BOTH TRADE CHANNELS EXIST FOR THE PRODUCT: a hobby box (DA Card World, "24 Packs Per Box, 12 Cards Per Pack"; cardboardconnection, "12 cards per pack, 24 packs per box, 20 boxes per case") and a blaster box (blowoutbuzz, "Packs per box: 10", "Cards per pack: 11"). That product-level fact was deliberately NOT propagated onto any tier. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards ; https://www.dacardworld.com/sports-cards/2016-17-panini-donruss-basketball-hobby-box ; https://blowoutbuzz.wordpress.com/2017/01/01/buzz-break-2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards-blaster-box/
  • G-010 THE ONE CHANNEL VALUE WRITTEN IN THIS RELEASE IS PRESENCE-ONLY AND IT IS THE THINNEST EVIDENCE HERE. Orange Holo Laser carries channel=blaster with channel_basis=sourced-presence and channel_confidence=single, on ONE box break: blowoutbuzz opened a "2016-17 Donruss basketball cards (blaster box)" on 2017-01-01 and its pull list contains "Holo Orange Laser (1) - Kelly Oubre Jr." No source says this or any other parallel is EXCLUSIVE to blaster or to retail, so per CAV-010 the row is not an exclusivity claim. TWO SPECIFIC WEAKNESSES. (1) The channel word and the parallel name come from two different clauses of one page, not from one sentence. (2) blowoutbuzz prints "Holo Orange Laser" - the word order tcdb itself uses in 2017-18 - while 2016-17 tcdb prints "Orange Holo Laser"; the identification rests on this release having exactly one Orange parallel, which is true of tcdb's "Parallel Sets (14)" section. A single contrary observation would overturn the row. https://blowoutbuzz.wordpress.com/2017/01/01/buzz-break-2016-17-donruss-basketball-cards-blaster-box/ ; https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/136418/2016-17-Donruss
  • G-011 THE CAV-036 DONRUSS SHAPE REPRODUCES IN 2016-17: ONE Inserts.cfm PAGE, TWO SECTIONS, OPPOSITE INFORMATION CONTENT. The "Parallel Sets (14)" section is the textbook Prizm split - PROSE serial statements ("Serial numbered to 299", "Serial numbered to 1") on twelve rows and EMPTY cells on two (Green and Yellow Holo Laser, Orange Holo Laser) - and a row-level probe of ALL FOURTEEN confirmed the split IN BOTH DIRECTIONS across two Checklist.cfm pages each. The "Insert Sets (71)" section of the SAME page is worthless: the Notes cell is EMPTY on 71 of 71 rows, and of the forty-seven insert-scope tiers I probed at row level, thirty-eight are serial numbered. Writing "unnumbered" off those blanks would have put false values on thirty-eight rows. The blank-annotation test was therefore run only in the Parallel Sets section and was not run at all in the Insert Sets section. NOTE THE FORMAT ALSO REVERSES AGAINST THE SEASON ABOVE: donruss-bkb-2017-18 records BARE TOKENS in its Parallel Sets notes column; 2016-17 Donruss renders PROSE. Calibrating on the sibling season would have extracted nothing from twelve annotated cells. https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/136418/2016-17-Donruss
  • G-012 TRUNCATION CENSUS FOR THIS BUILD, AND THE ROW-COUNT-VERSUS-NUMBER-SPAN TELL FIRED REPEATEDLY. Rendered rows on 100-row Checklist.cfm pages across 30 page fetches: 82, 83, 74, 50, 50, 40, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50, 34, 45, 81, 64, 50, 40, 50, 50, 50, 57, 50, 51, 51. The worst page was Press Proof Silver page 2 at 34 of 100 - above CAV-046's floor of 25 but well below the 2016-17 scope memo's census, which recorded nothing below 50. The interior-drop shape CAV-046 names was visible on most page-1 fetches: Press Proof Silver rendered 50 rows spanning card numbers 1-79, Press Proof Black 50 rows spanning 1-75, Green Holo Laser 50 rows spanning 1-74 - so rows were dropped from the middle, not cut cleanly from the tail, and a row count alone would not have shown it. The PARENT pages did NOT show that shape: Checklist page 1 returned 82 contiguous rows over 1-82 and page 2 returned 83 contiguous rows over 101-183 under the DEFAULT sort, which is better than the 2016-17 scope memo measured on the Hoops parent (50 rows over 1-77). This did not affect the base run, which was completed to 200 with Gallery.cfm top-ups and both ends proved; it is why the parallel sweep denominators are partial.
  • G-013 Errors.cfm WAS NOT CONSULTED AND NO CLAIM IN THIS RELEASE RESTS ON ITS SILENCE. Per CAV-020 the endpoint returns the identical "no errors or variations" sentence on sets that provably carry UER rows and on sets that appear not to, so it discriminates nothing, and 43 rows in this corpus were marked for concluding from it. WHAT SURVIVES WITHOUT IT: base_set_size, the contiguity of 1-200 and the absence of any numbered block past the base run, all of which rest on an independent contiguous enumeration with both ends proved. WHAT IS THEREFORE NOT ESTABLISHED: whether a VARIATION set exists. Gallery.cfm strips the "b" suffix and a base-run enumeration is not designed to surface b-rows, so this is unsupported rather than disproved.
  • G-015 SEVENTEEN OF 61 PARALLEL ROWS LAND ON parallel_family="other" AND NO FAMILY WAS MINTED OR ADDED. channel_class and parallel_family were derived by AST-lifting CHANNEL_CLASS, FAMILIES and family_of() out of pipeline/fix_schema.py so the repo keeps exactly one definition (CAV-034); fix_schema.py was neither run nor edited, per CAV-039 and the brief. Where the names land: the six "Press Proof <colour>" base tiers and thirty insert-scope Press Proof tiers -> "Press Proof" (36 rows); the eight "<colour> Holo Laser" tiers -> "Holo" (8 rows); everything else -> "other" (17 rows), those being the plain insert-parallel names Gold (4), Black (4), Green (1) and Prime (8), for which FAMILIES has no pattern. ONE DERIVATION WORTH A SECOND LOOK, REPORTED AND WRITTEN AS DERIVED: "Green Holo Laser" contains both "Holo" and "Laser" and FAMILIES lists ("Holo","Holo") ahead of ("Laser","Laser"), so the ordered substring match returns "Holo". That is the same value donruss-bkb-2017-18 carries for its own "Holo Green Laser" rows, so the corpus is consistent and nothing was changed. Flagged so that if a later pass decides plain colours or Laser deserve families, this release moves with the rest of the corpus rather than alone.
  • G-016 INSERT AND AUTOGRAPH CARD-LEVEL CHECKLISTS WERE DELIBERATELY NOT WRITTEN. insert_cards.csv does not exist for this release; that pass is governed by CHASE_CHECKLIST_SPEC and is out of scope here. Twenty-four insert and autograph sets are in sets.csv with sourced counts and tcdb sids. ONE CALIBRATION NOTE FOR THAT PASS: twenty-three of the twenty-four render PLAIN INTEGER card numbers, and exactly one - Next Day Autographs (sid 141053, 39 cards) - renders alphanumeric codes ("ND-AJH", "ND-WB"). CHASE_CHECKLIST_SPEC's per-set-type aggregator calibration (which turns on aggregators renumbering letter-coded sets 1..N) therefore has exactly one set in this release to bite on.
  • G-017 TWO SETS HAVE AN EVIDENCED HOLE IN THEIR NUMBERING, RECORDED RATHER THAN DROPPED, AND NEITHER IS IN THE BASE RUN. Newly Crowned Rookie Jerseys is numbered 2-35 with no card 1 and no card 27: its Prime parallel (sid 141052) renders 33 rows over that span with 27 absent, and 33 matches both tcdb's header and cardboardconnection. Swatch Kings Jumbo Prime (141058) states "Total Cards: 24" against its base set's 25 and renders 1-25 with card 9 absent, which cardboardconnection states independently as "*No card #/9". Rookie Materials Signatures Prime (141056) likewise renders 1-35 with 28 absent against a header of 34. Per CAV-044 a hole is only writeable once a PARALLEL page of the same product has been opened, which is exactly how all three were found - but these are chase sets, card-level rows for them belong to the CHASE_CHECKLIST_SPEC pass, and nothing was written into base_cards.csv from them. The BASE run itself has no hole: 200 numbers, 200 rows, both ends proved.
  • G-018 NO FLOOR IS CLAIMED FOR THIS LINE AND NONE SHOULD BE INFERRED. The 2016-17 scope memo section 3a records a 2015-16 Donruss at tcdb sid 122399 and a 2014-15 Donruss at sid 103422, so this release is at least two seasons above the line's floor. Neither sid was opened in this build and no depth beneath 2014-15 was investigated - the brief said to report incidental depth findings and not to chase them, and I found none beyond what the memo already records. Per the Studio lesson in section 3b, absence from an adjacent index would not be a floor anyway; a floor needs a positive statement and no source read in this build makes one about Donruss.
