  • G-001 A 90-CARD ROOKIE AUTOGRAPH BLOCK SITS INSIDE THE PARENT CHECKLIST PAST THE BASE RUN (EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.3) AND IS EXCLUDED FROM base_set_size. tcdb parent sid 170390 states Total Cards "190" (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/170390/2017-18-Panini-Encased); cards 1-100 carry the single flag "SN99" with no AU and no RC, and cards 101-190 all carry "AU RC SN99" - https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/170390/2017-18-Panini-Encased?PageIndex=2 renders "101, Jordan Bell, Golden State Warriors, AU RC SN99" through 182 and https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/170390/2017-18-Panini-Encased?PageIndex=19 renders 181-190 ending "190 - Bam Adebayo, Miami Heat | Flags: AU, RC, SN99". base_set_size is 100. THE CATALOGUE CONTRADICTS ITSELF ON THIS CONVENTION ELSEWHERE and EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.3 names the case: contenders-bkb-2019-20 sets base_set_size=165 INCLUDING its 101-165 Rookie Ticket autograph block while contendersoptic-bkb-2019-20 sets 100 and files 101-140 separately. This release follows the spec's exclusion rule, as both sibling seasons of this line also do (encased-bkb-2018-19 base_set_size=100 against a parent Total Cards of 219; encased-bkb-2019-20 base_set_size=100 against 274).
  • G-002 THE 101-190 BLOCK'S INTERNAL BOUNDARIES ARE NOT SOURCED AND ARE NOT ASSERTED ANYWHERE IN THIS RELEASE. The block is rendered as one contiguous run of identically-flagged rows; no source renders a section break inside it. What is sourced is each constituent set's COUNT, from two independent lineages - cardboardconnection's "Rookie Endorsements Autographs Set Checklist / 40 cards. Serial numbered #/99.", "Rookie Scripted Signatures Set Checklist / 30 cards. Serial numbered #/99." and "Rookie Notable Signatures Set Checklist / 20 cards. Serial numbered #/99." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2017-18-panini-encased-basketball-nba-cards), and sportscardchecklist's "Rookie Endorsements (40 Cards)", "Rookie Scripted Signatures (30 Cards)" and "Rookie Notable Signatures (20 Cards)" (https://www.sportscardchecklist.com/sport-basketball/year-2017-18/index-panini-encased/trading-card-checklists-and-product-information) - plus the arithmetic 40+30+20 = 90 = 190 minus the 100-card base run. Which card numbers each set occupies is NOT recorded, because deriving 101-140 / 141-170 / 171-190 from the counts would be a derived number presented as a sourced one. A later card-level pass under CHASE_CHECKLIST_SPEC should establish the boundaries from the cards themselves.
  • G-003 FIVE PARALLEL TIERS ARE PROVABLY SERIAL NUMBERED WITH A PER-CARD VARIABLE RUN, A STATE THE SCHEMA CANNOT EXPRESS (EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.3), SO ALL FIVE CARRY print_run=UNKNOWN AND serial_numbered=UNKNOWN. In every case the distinct serial-token set was enumerated over the whole tier, not sampled, and a second independent source states the same variability in words. (1) Endorsements Red - AU,SN25 on 34 rows and AU,SN15 on 12 of 46 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178318/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Endorsements-Red); cardboardconnection prints "PARALLEL CARDS: Red #/25 or #/15, Gold #/10, Green #/5, Platinum 1/1." (2) Scripted Signatures Red - AU,SN25 on 28 and AU,SN15 on 18 of 46 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178332/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Scripted-Signatures-Red); same cardboardconnection line. (3) Dual Jerseys Prime - MEM,SN10 on most rows and MEM,SN5 on Stephen Curry and Bradley Beal (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178311/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Dual-Jerseys-Prime); cardboardconnection prints "PARALLEL CARDS: Prime #/10 (Beal, Curry #/5*)." - the two sources name the SAME two players. (4) Triple Jerseys Prime - MEM,SN10 on 44 and MEM,SN5 on 12 of 56 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178338/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Triple-Jerseys-Prime); cardboardconnection prints "PARALLEL CARDS: Prime #/10 or #/5." (5) Rookie Triple Jerseys Prime - MEM,SN10 on the great majority and MEM,SN6 on Josh Hart (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178327/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Rookie-Triple-Jerseys-Prime); cardboardconnection prints "PARALLEL CARDS: Prime #/10 (Hart #/6*)." - same player, same figure. The measured variable rate for this release is 5 of 36 parallel rows, 14 percent, against 27 percent for encased-bkb-2018-19. All of these would have been written as flat 25 or flat 10 by a three-row sample.
  • G-004 FOUR SETS ARE THEMSELVES NOT UNIFORMLY SERIAL NUMBERED, AND sets.csv HAS NOWHERE TO SAY SO (there is no print_run column, EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.2). Distinct serial-token sets, enumerated over every rendered row, not sampled: Endorsements 46 rows = AU,SN99 x23 + AU,SN25 x12 + AU,SN49 x11 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178314/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Endorsements); Scripted Signatures 46 rows = AU,SN99 x18 + AU,SN49 x7 + AU,SN25 x21 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178328/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Scripted-Signatures); Dual Rookie Jerseys 40 rows = MEM,SN149 x11 + MEM,SN99 x29 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178312/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Dual-Rookie-Jerseys); Rookie Triple Jerseys 40 rows = MEM,SN99 (majority) + MEM,SN25 (Josh Hart) + MEM,SN59 (Kyle Kuzma) (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178326/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Rookie-Triple-Jerseys). cardboardconnection corroborates by OMISSION in a checkable way: it prints "Serial numbered #/NN" under every other set heading and prints no serial statement under exactly these two of them ("Endorsements Autographs Set Checklist / 46 cards." and "Dual Rookie Jerseys Set Checklist / 40 cards.") (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2017-18-panini-encased-basketball-nba-cards). These figures are NOT in any structured column anywhere in this release.
  • G-005 SET-LEVEL PRINT RUNS THAT ARE FULLY SOURCED BUT HAVE NO COLUMN TO LIVE IN (EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.2 - sets.csv cannot hold a set's own print run and the numbering is not a parallel tier). All of the following are uniform across every rendered row of their tcdb page AND stated in words by cardboardconnection (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2017-18-panini-encased-basketball-nba-cards): Rookie Endorsements, Rookie Scripted Signatures and Rookie Notable Signatures all #/99 (every row of the 101-190 parent block renders SN99); Dual Jerseys #/99 (MEM,SN99 x59); Triple Jerseys #/99 (MEM,SN99 x59); Substantial Swatches #/99 (MEM,SN99 x10); Substantial Swatches Rookies #/99 (MEM,SN99 x30); Perfect 10 #/49 (AU,SN49 x9); Legendary Swatch Signatures #/49 (AU,MEM,SN49 on every rendered row); Vaulted Veteran Materials Signatures #/49 (AU,MEM,SN49 x39). Recorded here and in each set's notes so the figures survive.
  • G-006 CONTRADICTION FOUND, AND IT IS A CROSS-PRODUCT CONTAMINATION OF A SOURCE THIS RELEASE OTHERWISE RELIES ON. sportscardchecklist's 2017-18 Panini Encased index (https://www.sportscardchecklist.com/sport-basketball/year-2017-18/index-panini-encased/trading-card-checklists-and-product-information) lists 69 entries, of which EIGHTEEN belong to a DIFFERENT 2017-18 product, Panini Threads: six "Box Topper Memorabilia" entries (plain, Prime, Rookies, Rookies Prime, Rookies Variations, Variations, 25 cards each), six "Threads" entries (plain plus Dazzle, Dazzle Black, Dazzle Blue, Dazzle Gold, Dazzle Red, 60 cards each) and six "Rookies Threads" entries (same five Dazzle tiers, 40 cards each). PROOF: tcdb files the Box Topper sets under the Threads parent, at https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/176611/2017-18-Panini-Threads---Box-Topper-Memorabilia-Prime , titled "2017-18 Panini Threads - Box Topper Memorabilia Prime"; and sportscardchecklist's OWN Panini Threads index (https://www.sportscardchecklist.com/sport-basketball/year-2017-18/index-panini-threads/trading-card-checklists-and-product-information) lists the same Box Topper Memorabilia sets plus "2017-18 Panini Threads (100 Cards)" and Threads Dazzle tiers at 100 cards, where its Encased index splits the same 100 into a 60-card "Threads" and a 40-card "Rookies Threads". None of the eighteen is written into this release. Once those are removed the index reconciles EXACTLY with tcdb: 51 entries = 1 base + 4 base colour parallels + 3 in-parent rookie sets + 12 rookie-set colour parallels + 11 sid'd sets + 20 sid'd set parallels. Flagged for whoever builds threads-bkb-2017-18: a name-keyed search on that line will pull Encased pages and vice versa.
  • G-007 DELIBERATE CONVENTION DIVERGENCE FROM THE SIBLING SEASON, RECORDED RATHER THAN SMOOTHED OVER. On this line tcdb gives each base colour ONE sid that spans the whole parent - base run plus the in-parent autograph block - so a single sid is evidence for two different scopes. encased-bkb-2018-19 met that shape, wrote only the four base-set-scope rows and said in its own notes that "the block-side tiers are not written as rows and are recorded in gaps G-004". THIS RELEASE WRITES THEM, as twelve set-scope rows against Rookie Endorsements, Rookie Scripted Signatures and Rookie Notable Signatures. The reason the evidence supports it here and did not there: in 2018-19 the run CHANGES at the block boundary (SN35 on 1-100, SN25 from 101), so a block-side figure needed the block's own enumeration; in 2017-18 the distinct token set over all 190 rows of each colour sid is a SINGLE token, so the run holds over any sub-range of 101-190 whatever the internal boundaries are, and cardboardconnection independently prints the same four-tier ladder under each of the three rookie set headings while sportscardchecklist lists each of the twelve as a set of its own. A reader comparing the two seasons will see 16 colour rows here against 4 there; that is a difference in what could be evidenced, not a difference in the products. encased-bkb-2018-19's G-004 is worth re-opening against this.
  • G-008 FOUR TIERS HAVE A SMALLER ROSTER THAN THE SET THEY PARALLEL, CONFIRMED BY TWO LINEAGES EACH, AND ONE OF THEM HAS A STATED REASON. Scripted Signatures Platinum states Total Cards 45 against Scripted Signatures' 46 (https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178331/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Scripted-Signatures-Platinum ; sportscardchecklist "Scripted Signatures Platinum (45 Cards)"). Perfect 10 Platinum states 8 against Perfect 10's 9 and renders eight players with no Giannis Antetokounmpo, while the Green tier of the same set does render him; cardboardconnection says why in its own parallel line, "Platinum 1/1 (No Giannis*)", and sportscardchecklist lists "Perfect 10 Platinum (8 Cards)". Dual Jerseys Prime states 57 against Dual Jerseys' 59, and Triple Jerseys Prime 56 against 59; sportscardchecklist states both. THIS IS THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM THE SIBLING SEASON: encased-bkb-2018-19 found a Prime tier LARGER than the set it parallels (58 against 50) alongside five smaller ones. Tier roster size is not predictable from the parent in either direction on this line, and none of these is a print-run finding. parallels.csv has no roster-size column, so the figures live only in notes and here.
  • G-009 LEGENDARY SWATCH SIGNATURES RENDERED SHORT ON tcdb AND WAS NOT RESOLVED BY A SECOND tcdb VIEW. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/178319/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Legendary-Swatch-Signatures states Total Cards "20" and rendered only 18 rows. card_count 20 is written on three independent statements of 20 (that header, cardboardconnection's "20 cards. Serial numbered #/49.", and sportscardchecklist's "Legendary Swatch Signatures (20 Cards)"), but the two unrendered rows were never seen and no Gallery top-up of the base tier was fetched - only of its Prime tier, whose page 2 rendered ten further rows all carrying AU,MEM,SN10. A card-level pass should confirm the 20 from the cards.
  • G-010 RELEASE DATE IS 2018-06-27 ON TWO SOURCES, NEITHER OF WHICH QUALIFIES IT AS AN ESTIMATE, AND THE USUAL THIRD STRUCTURAL SOURCE IS GONE. cardboardconnection prints "Release Date: 06/27/2018" (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2017-18-panini-encased-basketball-nba-cards) with no "Estimated Release Date" wording anywhere on the page. gogts.net, which is off the cardboardconnection/checklistcenter editorial lineage, prints "hitting stores Tomorrow: June 27th, 2018" (https://gogts.net/2017-18-panini-encased-nba-basketball-cards-checklist/). beckett.com is unreachable (302 to a maintenance page) and was not consulted; a beckett.com/news URL for this product appears in search results but the host does not serve it. No source was found that disagrees with the date.
  • G-011 checklistcenter HAS NO 2017-18 ENCASED PAGE THAT ANY SEARCH SURFACED, AND THAT IS NOT AN ABSENCE CLAIM. Per CAV-037 its slugs are irregular and a 404 on a constructed URL is evidence of nothing, so no URL was constructed and no absence is asserted. A web search scoped to the site returned checklistcenter pages for other 2017-18 Panini products (for example /2017-18-panini-essentials/) but none for Encased. The consequence for this release is that its structural corroboration comes from tcdb, cardboardconnection and sportscardchecklist rather than from checklistcenter, which is the source the sibling season used for its channel evidence.
  • G-012 INDEPENDENCE CAVEAT ON source_confidence=multi. Every parallel row in this release carries multi, and the claim is that at least two of tcdb, cardboardconnection and sportscardchecklist support the value. Two of those are NOT unconditionally independent. (a) cardboardconnection and checklistcenter are one lineage in this catalogue's standing assumption (CAV-037 softens it but does not remove it); checklistcenter is not used here, so that particular risk does not arise. (b) sportscardchecklist matches tcdb's rendered counts EXACTLY on every odd figure in this release - 45, 8, 57, 56, 190-split-as-100+40+30+20 - which is precisely the shared-upstream tell CHASE_CHECKLIST_SPEC documents for 2020-21 Optic. What argues against pure copying is that it disagrees with tcdb's own structure in a direction a copier would not invent (it splits one 190-card colour sid into four named sets, and it carries the eighteen Panini Threads entries tcdb files under a different parent). The honest reading: tcdb plus sportscardchecklist is probably better than one source and is not certainly two. Where a value rests on tcdb plus cardboardconnection - which is every print run written here - the two lineages are genuinely different in kind.
  • G-013 CHANNEL IS PRESENCE, NOT EXCLUSIVITY, ON EVERY ROW (CAV-010). Nothing found states that 2017-18 Encased was sold through a single channel. cardboardconnection prints "Each Hobby box contains two autographs and two memorabilia cards, and one of the signed cards is professionally graded." and "Product Configuration: 5 cards per pack, 1 pack per box, 8 boxes per case" (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2017-18-panini-encased-basketball-nba-cards); gogts.net says only "hitting stores" (https://gogts.net/2017-18-panini-encased-nba-basketball-cards-checklist/). All 36 parallel rows therefore carry channel=hobby with channel_basis=sourced-presence, channel_confidence=single, and no row claims sourced-exclusive - the same call encased-bkb-2018-19 made, where not one sourced-exclusive was written either. No retail, blaster, mega, FOTL or panini-direct SKU was found for this product; note that the 2018-19 sibling DOES carry two FOTL tiers, so the absence here is an absence of evidence rather than a proven absence of the SKU.
  • G-014 NO VARIATION SET IS ASSERTED AND NONE IS RULED OUT. No b-suffixed or c-suffixed card number was rendered by any of the eight parent-sid fetches made here (Checklist.cfm PageIndex 1 and 2; Gallery.cfm PageIndex 9, 10 and 19; ViewSet.cfm), and the 190 rendered rows reconcile exactly with the stated Total Cards of 190 over 190 distinct numbers, so there is no unexplained overshoot. That is NOT proof: Gallery.cfm strips the b suffix, and per CAV-020 a clean Errors.cfm is worthless as evidence, so Errors.cfm was not fetched for this purpose and its silence would not have helped. A variation layer would render as duplicate base numbers on Checklist.cfm, which was read in full for 1-85 and 101-182 but not for 86-100 or 183-190. Open rather than resolved.
  • G-015 THE NEXT SEASON'S PARENT WAS NOT CHECKED FOR A 2017-18 UPDATE BLOCK (EXTRACTION_SPEC 5.5 mirror). No number in 1-190 is concluded unissued here - the run is contiguous on two endpoints - so the mirror hazard does not bite on this release, but the check was not run and encased-bkb-2018-19's parent sid 205974 was not inspected for sets titled "2017-18 Panini Encased Update". Recorded so a later pass does not assume it was done. Noted as a contrast: the 2018-19 sibling DID find four unissued numbers inside its own autograph block; 2017-18 has none, in the base run or the block.
  • G-016 NO PACK ODDS WERE SOURCED FOR ANY SET IN THIS RELEASE. stated_odds, odds_evidence_url and odds_evidence_quote are empty on all 15 sets.csv rows and all 36 parallels.csv rows, and scarcity_tier is empty throughout because the scarcity pass has not covered this release (CAV-005: empty means not covered, UNKNOWN would mean it looked and could not place the row). cardboardconnection publishes a "Hobby Box Break Average" of "1 Graded Autograph and 1 Additional Autograph / 2 Memorabilia Cards" (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2017-18-panini-encased-basketball-nba-cards), which is a box yield and not pack odds.
  • G-017 CARD-LEVEL CHECKLISTS FOR THE 14 INSERT AND AUTOGRAPH SETS WERE DELIBERATELY NOT WRITTEN. They are a separate pass under CHASE_CHECKLIST_SPEC and insert_cards.csv was not created. Two things learned in this pass are worth carrying into it: the Legendary Swatch Signatures Prime page renders real letter codes (LS-JKD, LS-JSK, LS-KBR, LS-KSM, LS-LBD, LS-MRM, LS-RML, LS-SBL, LS-SPK, LS-TGG at https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/178320/2017-18-Panini-Encased-Legendary-Swatch-Signatures-Prime?PageIndex=2 ), so this line is letter-coded and not plain 1..N on its autograph sets; and the three Rookie sets have NO sid, so their numbers are the parent block's plain integers 101-190 and must be corroborated from marketplace titles before being written.
