- G-001 NO FLOOR IS CLAIMED FOR THE `studio` LINE, AND THE DEPTH BENEATH 2016-17 IS STATED IN WORDS BY THE MANUFACTURER AS ROUGHLY EIGHT SEASONS. Filed as a gap row so the open hole beneath this release is visible to a consumer rather than living only in a scope memo. Studio is absent from tcdb's 2015-16 index and from its 2014-15 index (specs/2016-17_SCOPE_MEMO.md section 3), which is exactly the evidence that would have been used to call it a debut. IT IS NOT A DEBUT. Panini America's own blog: "Eight years. That's how long it's been since Panini America's Studio Basketball brand last appeared in the marketplace." (https://blog.paniniamerica.net/panini-america-delivers-detailed-first-look-at-2016-17-studio-basketball-gallery/, published April 13, 2017). I fetched that page and verified the sentence character for character myself rather than trusting a transcription. A SECOND, INDEPENDENT EDITORIAL LINEAGE NAMES A YEAR: "After sitting on the bench since the 2009 season, 2016-17 Panini Studio Basketball sees the brand rebooted." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-cards). Eight years before 2016-17 is approximately 2008-09, which is consistent with cardboardconnection's "2009 season". RESOLVE BY: nothing in this release - the predecessor was deliberately NOT chased, per the build brief. The two quotes above are the positive statement that this season's rule requires, and they bound the hole without closing it. Anyone backfilling `studio` should start at 2008-09 and should not assume the line ran continuously between then and 2016-17; neither source says it did. ⚠ A THIRD LINEAGE GIVES A DIFFERENT NUMBER AND I AM RECORDING THE DIVERGENCE RATHER THAN MERGING IT. A beckett.com URL surfaced in a web search with the path segment "2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-marks-the-brands-return-after-seven-years" and the title "2016-17 Panini Studio Basketball Checklist and Team Set Lists" - SEVEN years, against Panini's own EIGHT. THE PAGE WAS NEVER OPENED and the slug is cited as a title string only: https://www.beckett.com/news/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-marks-the-brands-return-after-seven-years/ returns HTTP 302 to https://maintenance.beckett.com/ , which reproduces the documented Beckett unreachability on an eighteenth product. Seven years before 2016-17 is 2009-10 and eight is 2008-09; cardboardconnection's "since the 2009 season" sits between the two readings and does not separate them. The written claim is only that NO FLOOR IS CLAIMED and the depth is roughly eight seasons, which all three lineages support; the exact predecessor season is NOT established by any of them and was not chased.
- G-004 BASE PRINT RUN IS `unnumbered` ON A POSITIVE DISCRIMINATIVE TEST BUT THE BASIS IS `assumed`, BECAUSE NO SOURCE SAYS SO IN WORDS. No row of the 300-card base run carries a token beginning SN or PR on any of twelve parent fetches (Checklist.cfm PageIndex 1, 2 and 3; the same page under ?sort=0 and under an alternate slug; Gallery.cfm PageIndex 8, 9, 10, 18, 19, 20, 28, 29 and 30, all under &sort=0). That absence alone is worth nothing (CAV-042). What licenses the value is that THE SAME TWO RENDERERS emit serial tokens on this product's own base parallels - Checklist.cfm/sid/153284 renders SN1 on every row and /sid/153286 renders SN15 on every row, and Gallery.cfm?PageIndex=10&sort=0 does the same on both - while emitting none on any of the parent's 300 rows. Per EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.1 that is strong indirect evidence and is still `assumed`, not `sourced`. RESOLVE BY: a source stating in words that 2016-17 Studio base cards carry no serial number. cardboardconnection prints no figure for the base set and Panini's post gives none; an omission is not a statement of fact. URLs for the twelve parent fetches, so a reviewer can open them rather than reconstruct them: https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio?PageIndex=1 (and ?PageIndex=2, ?PageIndex=3, ?PageIndex=1&sort=0), https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Basketball-Cards?PageIndex=1 , and https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio?PageIndex=8&sort=0 with PageIndex 9, 10, 18, 19, 20, 28, 29 and 30. The two sibling parallels that supply the discriminative test are https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153284/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Gold?sort=0 and https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153286/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Teal?sort=0 .
- G-005 CHANNEL IS `hobby` WITH BASIS `sourced-presence` ON EVERY PARALLEL ROW, APPLIED AT PRODUCT LEVEL, AND NO EXCLUSIVITY IS CLAIMED. The only channel words any source consulted uses are Panini America's "2016-17 Studio Basketball is set to arrive in hobby shops across North America on May 31" (https://blog.paniniamerica.net/panini-america-delivers-detailed-first-look-at-2016-17-studio-basketball-gallery/) and cardboardconnection's single "Product Configuration: 6 cards per pack, 10 packs per box, 16 boxes per case (2 inners)" (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-cards) with one autograph and one memorabilia card per box. NO SOURCE NAMES A RETAIL, BLASTER, MEGA, FOTL OR INTERNATIONAL SKU FOR THIS PRODUCT AND NONE CLAIMS EXCLUSIVITY, so presence is the strongest claim the evidence supports and `sourced-exclusive` would be an over-claim. channel_confidence is `single` throughout: only the Panini post uses the word hobby. The statement is product-level and was NOT re-derived per tier, so a later pass finding a tier-specific SKU is not contradicting anything here. RESOLVE BY: a per-tier or per-SKU distribution statement from a second lineage.
- G-006 THE `Glossy` BASE-BLOCK PARALLEL IS SINGLE-SOURCE ON ITS VALUE. print_run=unnumbered / serial_numbered=no is written off tcdb alone (sid 153285), on a positive discriminative test rather than an absence: no row carries an SN or PR token on Checklist.cfm?sort=0 (rows 101-169), ViewSet.cfm (rows 165-177) or Gallery.cfm PageIndex 8, 9 and 10 under &sort=0 (cards 171-200) - every one of the tier's 100 rows read at least once and rows 165-177 read twice - while the same renderers emit SN1 and SN15 on sibling sids 153284 and 153286. cardboardconnection names the tier ("PARALLEL CARDS: Glossy." under "Base Studio Edition (Portrait) Set Checklist", https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-cards) but prints NO figure and makes no statement that it is unnumbered, and an editorial checklist omitting a figure is not a statement of fact (EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.1), so it is NOT a second source and source_confidence is `single`. RESOLVE BY: a second lineage stating the tier's numbering, or a marketplace listing of a Glossy card showing a serial or its absence. NOTE the Inserts.cfm Notes column on this parent IS the usable Prizm split shape in its Parallel Sets section (two annotated cells "SN1" and "SN15" against this one blank cell, bare-token format) and the split was confirmed in BOTH directions by row-level probes of all three sids - but that column is tcdb, the same lineage, not a second one.
- G-007 THREE SETS' OWN PRINT RUNS CANNOT BE WRITTEN ANYWHERE IN THE SCHEMA, BECAUSE sets.csv HAS NO print_run COLUMN (EXTRACTION_SPEC 2.2) AND THESE ARE NOT PARALLEL TIERS. Recorded here so the measurements are not lost. (1) Celebrated Signatures is UNIFORM at /49 - AU and SN49 on all 14 rendered rows of https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153291/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Celebrated-Signatures?sort=0 , a clean flat figure with nowhere to live. (2) Breakout Signatures is SERIAL NUMBERED WITH A PER-CARD VARIABLE RUN: over all 38 rows of https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153287/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Breakout-Signatures?sort=0 the distinct token set is AU plus {SN299, SN249, SN199, SN99, SN49} - SN49 on cards 33 Karl-Anthony Towns and 39 Anthony Davis, SN99 on 17 Brandon Ingram, 37 Zach LaVine, 38 Kyrie Irving and 40 Andrew Wiggins, SN199 on 12, 13, 14 and 31, SN249 on 35 Clint Capela, SN299 on the rest. (3) Studio Signatures likewise, and harder: over all 44 rows of https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153308/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Studio-Signatures?sort=0 the distinct token set is AU plus NINE values {SN299, SN249, SN199, SN175, SN165, SN125, SN99, SN60, SN49} - SN49 on card 13 Kobe Bryant, SN60 on 10 Karl-Anthony Towns, SN99 on 36 Jaylen Brown and 42 Brandon Ingram, SN125 on 15, 16 and 45, SN165 on 14 Evan Turner, SN175 on 39 Kris Dunn, SN199 on 12, 40 and 44, SN249 on 11, 17 and 38, SN299 on the remaining 32. A three-row sample of either would have written a clean, sourced-looking flat 299. RESOLVE BY: a `print_run_basis` column on parallels, or a sibling table holding per-card runs, as CAV-041 asks for. This is the sixth consecutive season the same expressiveness gap has cost a measured value.
- G-008 CARD COUNT IS CONTESTED ON THE THREE AUTOGRAPH SETS AND I HAVE WRITTEN cardboardconnection's HIGHER FIGURE AFTER APPLYING CAV-044's REMEDY. tcdb's own set pages state and render 38 (Breakout Signatures, numbers 1-18 and 21-40), 14 (Celebrated Signatures, 1-3 and 5-15) and 44 (Studio Signatures, 1-18 and 20-45); cardboardconnection states "40 cards.", "15 cards." and "45 cards." (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-cards). Before accepting any hole I opened every object sharing each block's number range, which is what CAV-044 requires, and the holes are REFUTED in all three cases: https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153288/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Breakout-Signatures-Gold?sort=0 renders card 19 Jamal Murray and card 20 Kevin Durant, and the Teal parallel (sid 153290) renders card 19 and card 40 Andrew Wiggins; https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153292/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Celebrated-Signatures-Gold?sort=0 states "Total Cards: 15" and renders all fifteen numbers INCLUDING card 4 Kevin Durant; https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153309/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Studio-Signatures-Gold?sort=0 states "Total Cards: 45" and renders all forty-five INCLUDING card 19 Kevin Durant. THE PATTERN IS THE FINDING AND IT IS WORTH SOMEONE'S ATTENTION: in all three sets the single row the tcdb base-tier page omits is KEVIN DURANT, and in all three he is present on the Gold 1/1 parallel. Two readings fit - tcdb is missing one row per set, or Durant signed only the Gold versions - and I cannot separate them from tcdb alone. cardboardconnection's counts favour the first. RESOLVE BY: a marketplace listing of a non-Gold Kevin Durant Studio Signatures / Breakout Signatures / Celebrated Signatures card, which would settle it in one fetch. NO MARKETPLACE CORROBORATION WAS ATTEMPTED ON THIS RELEASE (see G-014). MARKETPLACE CORROBORATION WAS ATTEMPTED ON THIS QUESTION AND RETURNED NOTHING USABLE: two web searches for a Kevin Durant 2016-17 Studio Signatures / Breakout Signatures autograph surfaced no listing for any Kevin Durant card from this product, so the question is still open in both directions. The same searches DID produce one clean independent corroboration of a different value - a sports-cards.nl listing titled "2016-17 Domantas Sabonis #9 Panini Studio Breakout Signatures RC /299" (https://sports-cards.nl/product/2016-17-domantas-sabonis-9-panini-studio-breakout-signatures-rc-299/), which matches tcdb's SN299 on card 9 Domantas Sabonis exactly and carries no tcdb flag string in its title, so it is not contaminated by the four proven shapes. One eBay-sourced title in the same results, "2016-17 Panini Studio - Studio Signatures Kris Dunn #39 /175 (AU, RC)", DOES carry the tcdb flag string "(AU, RC)" verbatim and was rejected as contaminated rather than counted, even though its /175 agrees with my reading.
- G-009 TWO Magenta TIERS ARE PROVABLY SERIAL NUMBERED WITH A PER-CARD VARIABLE RUN, SO BOTH CARRY print_run=UNKNOWN / serial_numbered=UNKNOWN AND THE CENSUS LIVES HERE. Both were confirmed on a second differently-varied fetch because each decides a value. (1) FIRST IMPACT MAGENTA, sid 153299: over all 25 rows the distinct token set is MEM plus {SN30, SN29, SN23} - SN29 on card 4 Kris Dunn and card 11 Taurean Prince, SN23 on card 9 Thon Maker, SN30 on the other 22. Read on https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153299/2016-17-Panini-Studio-First-Impact-Magenta?sort=0 and confirmed character for character on https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/153299/2016-17-Panini-Studio-First-Impact-Magenta . cardboardconnection AGREES there is no flat figure, printing "Magenta #/30 or less" for this set (https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-cards) - and that "or less" was recovered only on a second differently-parameterised read of the page, which is CAV-052's exact hazard. A ceiling is not a print run. (2) GAMERS MAGENTA, sid 153304: over all 43 rows the distinct token set is MEM plus {SN30, SN20} - SN20 on J.J. Redick alone. Read on https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/153304/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Gamers-Magenta?sort=0 and confirmed on https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/153304/2016-17-Panini-Studio-Gamers-Magenta , which named J.J. Redick as the only SN20 row unprompted. HERE THE SOURCES DISAGREE: cardboardconnection prints a FLAT "Magenta #/30" for Gamers with no qualifier, re-read on a second differently-parameterised fetch and still flat, so that row carries value_contested=yes. A three-row sample of either tier would have written a clean flat 30. RESOLVE BY: the schema change named in G-007; until then the figures above are the record.
- G-010 SET-NAME DIVERGENCES BETWEEN tcdb AND cardboardconnection, RECORDED SO A RESOLVER CAN MATCH BOTH. tcdb's name is written in every case because tcdb is the renderer whose own sid carries the rows. tcdb "Rising to the Occasion" against cc "Rise to the Occasion Set Checklist" - a different verb form, not a typo on either side. tcdb "From Downtown!" (exclamation mark reproduced verbatim) against cc "From Downtown". tcdb "The Influencers" against cc "Influencers Relics". tcdb "First Impact" against cc "First Impact Relics". tcdb "Gamers" against cc "Gamers Relics". tcdb "Defying Gravity" against cc "Defying Gravity Die-Cuts". tcdb "Rock Solid" against cc "Rock Solid Die-Cuts". The cc forms appended to the last five are descriptive suffixes naming the card type, not alternative product names. Sources: https://www.tcdb.com/Inserts.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio and https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-cards. RESOLVE BY: nothing outstanding; recorded for the resolver.
- G-011 ROOKIE FLAGS ARE WRITTEN ON ONE OF THE THREE BASE TIERS ONLY, AND THE REASON IS A WITHIN-PRODUCT CONTRADICTION I COULD NOT RESOLVE. tcdb renders the RC token on cards 76-100 and on no other row of the 300-card run. Cards 176-200 and 276-300 carry the IDENTICAL twenty-five players in the identical order (Brandon Ingram, Malcolm Brogdon, ... Thon Maker) and carry NO RC token. So: rookie_flag=yes on 76-100, where the token is rendered; rookie_flag=no on 1-75 and 101-175, where the flag column is provably live on the same pages (RC on 76-100 of page 1, the "SE" token on every row of 101-200) and emits no RC, and where every player is a veteran or a legend who cannot be a 2016-17 rookie; rookie_flag=UNKNOWN on 176-200 because the flag column IS live there and still shows no RC for players it flags RC seventy-five numbers earlier; and rookie_flag=UNKNOWN on the whole of 201-300 because that block renders NO token of any kind on any row, so there is no positive discriminative test available in it and CAV-042 forbids reading its blankness as a statement. 125 of 300 rows are therefore UNKNOWN. RESOLVE BY: a source that prints RC designations for this product per card, or a reading of tcdb's own RC convention (whether it flags a player's rookie card once per product or once per set). RELATED, AND DELIBERATELY NOT GLOSSED: the token "SE" on cards 101-200 is recorded as the literal string it is. It is almost certainly tcdb's marker for the Studio Edition subset, but I did not find a tcdb page that DEFINES the token and EXTRACTION_SPEC 3.4 forbids accepting a gloss from the same fetch that read the row, so no meaning is asserted anywhere in this release's data. Sources: https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio?PageIndex=1 (RC on 76-100, nothing on 1-75), ?PageIndex=2 (the token SE on every row of 101-179), ?PageIndex=3 (no token on any row of 201-279), and https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio?PageIndex=19&sort=0 (cards 181-190, SE and no RC on the same rookies) against https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio?PageIndex=9&sort=0 (cards 81-90, RC) and https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio?PageIndex=29&sort=0 (cards 281-290, no token at all).
- G-013 Errors.cfm ON THE PARENT RETURNED NOTHING AND I CONCLUDE NOTHING FROM IT (CAV-020). https://www.tcdb.com/Errors.cfm/sid/150641/2016-17-Panini-Studio is headed "Errors / Variations" and renders no rows, returning "No errors or variations have been added for this set yet." That endpoint returns the identical sentence on sets that provably DO carry UER rows, so it discriminates nothing and is recorded as evidence of nothing. The claim that this release's base run is clean and contiguous rests on the row-by-row enumeration in sets.csv, not on this silence. In particular NO claim is made here about whether a base variation layer exists. RESOLVE BY: a chase pass running Errors.cfm against the subset sids, or a second lineage listing variations.
- G-014 SOURCING LIMITS OF THIS BUILD, STATED PLAINLY. ONLY ONE EDITORIAL LINEAGE WAS USED: cardboardconnection. checklistcenter, checklistinsider, sportscardchecklist and waxstat were NOT swept for this product, so no independence test was run on any field (CAV-037 as corrected asks for one per product and per field). Where a row says `multi` it means tcdb plus cardboardconnection, which are two lineages but not two editorial lineages. Per CAV-037 a constructed checklistcenter URL that 404s is evidence of nothing, so none was constructed. MARKETPLACE CORROBORATION WAS ATTEMPTED ONLY TWICE, both times against G-008's Kevin Durant question, and neither search surfaced a Kevin Durant card from this product. No goldin or comc page was fetched and no systematic marketplace sweep was run, even though 2016-17 is the Simmons/Ingram/Hield/Brown rookie year and the raw material exists. One clean corroboration fell out incidentally (see G-008). A systematic sweep is the single cheapest thing a later pass could add. BECKETT: confirmed unreachable on this product too - https://www.beckett.com/news/2016-17-panini-studio-basketball-marks-the-brands-return-after-seven-years/ returns 302 to https://maintenance.beckett.com/ - so its page was never opened and only its URL slug is cited anywhere in this release, as a title string (G-001). beckett.com was not read: it is confirmed 302ing to a maintenance page across seventeen products and was correctly not budgeted for. RESOLVE BY: a second editorial lineage and one marketplace probe per contested value.
